Thats funny cause I actually read the whole thing without a problem very fluently. But its how you present yourself to along with grammar. Cause most of the people who spell horrid are the ones who use the worst grammar...
Example: Im is noot giong 2 duh stoor 2daiy plees gat meh somfin wen u do

As long as you can generally easily understand what a person is saying then its not a problem.

theres no reason to take someone less seriously by the way someone types what really matters is what there saying. Unless your applying to yale or something

And ive meet people that obsess over spelling and grammar but when they spoke they made absolutely no sense.

its funny how when i looked at the thread name i instantly thought of this exact article i have seen over 500 times whored throughout the internet, and my arguement for the stupidity is it has to have every letter in the word and the first and last letter in tact, therefor 'u, r, lol' ETC. should not be tolerated, spell like a retard = treated like a retard.

Spelling is important for ease of understandability. Sure, you can read it eventually, but scratching your head and wasting 3 minutes trying to figure out what someone meant is never fun.

    Spelling --not necessary

This is a topic about spelling, not grammar.

    On Topic-
I think that spelling is generally important, but then again, I don't have a problem with people who misspell words occasionally. So I guess I don't care too much either way.

Precisely. However there is a difference between spelling errors due to lack of knowlege and errors made by "1337 speak". However, isn't it our different imperfections that make us individual.

    precisely ;)

    as it should be.

the difference here, is that all the letters in the word exist, not the half-assed words people make up "fkn" is not the same as "fucking" or "fkincug".

So yes, having knowledge of the full spelling of the word is a must.

I think spelling is essential if you ever want to get staff or a position of respect...but other than that no...

Encouragement? The majority of the users here act as though its their lifetime duty.

Who cares if it's not their native language? They can learn it, or at least try harder.
They do neither, and are therefor what they are being called by those "others".
How do I know? English is my THIRD language, yet I speak, read and write it (as far as I know) at least decently.

Either way, proper spelling is always a necessity. Why?
-Because it's a courtesy to others. Yes, it IS easier to read properly spelled words rather than scrambled ones.
-Because it shows you spent some time thinking about what you will write, or at least took the time to check that you wrote it properly.
-Because it shows a certain level of intelligence, maturity, or both.
-And finally, it helps with being taken seriously. When chatting with a friend on MSN proper grammar won't exactly be your top priority. But when you're addressing someone formally, whether for business or any other formal occasion, proper grammar is a way to show some respect towards him or her.

Now if you need me to explain any of the above to you, seeing how obvious it is, please get off the internet and go to school at least once in your life.

However, if you have any intelligent comments on my post, please do let me know.

It was a bit annoying, but I could read it at an essentially normal speed.
