Humans are becoming genetically less intelligent?

1. Human intelligence is largely hereditary.

2. Civilization depends totally upon innate intelligence. Without innate intelligence, civilization would never have been created. When intelligence declines, so does civilization.

Human intelligence is very largely environmental, also.

You have not taken into account the fact that the intelligence of an offspring is not the average of the two parents, but wildly fluctuates.

 

You also must realize how you measure the actual intellegence. A person may be very intellegent in english, but very dumb in math. It's about how you measure it.

 

I don't really believe all of this was true; after all, my parents were only of average intelligence (Both of them somewhere between 85-105) and yet of every single test I have taken I have scored anywhere from 119 to 135. The intelligence of a person is affected about 90% by personal interaction with reading, writing and logic games at a very young age. I remember that my mother would always read to me until I fell asleep, and when my mother could no longer read my father would read. I believe this to be the reason for my 'Look-at-it-once-and-learn-it' gift, not genetics.

 

Even today, the world is conpletely full of idiots. However, some of them may be very smart. The choice of what you do with the intelligence you are given varies greatly. A genius may sit around all day and never go to school, so his natural ability for advanced knowledge is wasted. Meanwhile, a person who may be below accademic standards could study and work to attain knowledge that surpasses the lazy genius.

That being said, the would could be full of genius' that just refuse to try to attain the knowledge that they are able to. So, it's more or less a matter of motivation.

But, genetically, Im really cant argue with numbers. If it's true, it's true. But I think it's more than just genetics when it comes to intelligence.

True - It's because a large amount of people place marrriage/love on looks, not personality. And, ive researched that a kind personality is more likely to have a high IQ level - it sounds like stereotyping, but i think my research has been quite accurate - you dont see any hardcore-chavs (no offence lol) in labatories do you?

 

IQ is becoming higher, common sense is getting lower.
People who get high grades usually have no common sense what so ever.

What? If a person is smart, they aren't an idiot.

 

Not true. I have met many people who are very smart, but make decisions in life that are idiotic.

 

so youre saying we're de-evolutionizing....we can only get smarter, humans have never had to use their brains more than in this time we live in....we can only grow to adapt to the world around us, and the world around us requires knowledge.... and genetics are pulled from a gene pool, where genius can be inherited from grand parents or beyond, not just genius but general knowledge and common sense.... Your thread is completely wrong.. since your saying that 2 dumb parents cant make a smart successful child, im living proof.

 

this actually doesn't surprise me... with all the numbers of drug users, kids dropping out of high school or college, etc. increasing every year

it's sad that this is happening but it would take a massive effort to correct it
