Signatures/Tags?

Hello guys, i'm posting this topic in regards to what I personally think about designing signatures and tags these days.

i did start designing 4 years because of my curiosity, but then overtime I was thinking to myself that they are a waste of time and they will not contribute to professional design in the industry. So I quit making them around a year and a half ago I believe, or i think sooner than that. I don't remember.

Point being is, i quit making them because the industry does not give a damn about these things, so why make them? I understand many people on sythe currently make them for the sake of $$$ and some may be making them for fun, but in reality, they are actually pointless to design because in the real-world, real proper jobs, they are pointless and useless.

I'm a full-time interaction design student at university at the moment, and now my focus is on primarily designing and coding websites/applications.

What are your thoughts? don't hate me for this, i'm simply speaking my opinion, and I would like to know what are your thoughts and how do you feel about it.

 

Signatures and tags can help you promote which is the whole reason for them. I did mine for fun and i am not a designer. Overall my opinion is this is completely wrong people who can promote themself's good enough can make a living through doing Youtube/Twitch/Twitter/Sythe and more banners and logo's can make a living through it. They can also do websites at there own choice but they are not pointless in this part of the internet. Not all parts of the internet acquire them but as you can see right top corner in the above the ''Arcus Gold'' Signature is promoted to everyone which brings them in buyers

 

I'm personally pursuing a degree in something unrelated and would rather design remain a passion instead of turning it into a chore. I have no reason to adhere to what the industry demands as I found a niche that enjoys my work and that I enjoy working for.

I've always been into design and it's what I wanted to go to school for. When I first started using Photoshop, all I ever did was make tags. I still do love doing it, but only for fun. It's simply not something I want to go to school for, because I want it to remain as a means to have fun rather than a job.

I wouldn't go as far as not making tags anymore because you don't think it could help you professionally. Tags still require artistic concepts that could help your future design, and just because you can't do it professionally doesn't mean you can't have fun with it anymore.

If you enjoy doing it, keep doing it.

 

Yes tags are fun to make, but when you realize how valuable time is, i think I'd like to dedicate my time practicing professional design that is related to my field.

I think that's just me and how I see matters really.

 

It depends on why you create graphics if you're looking to pursue a career in it, yer you should be focusing on modeling, animation, social media, web design, UI/UX, etc. Though if it's more of a past time as it is for me making signatures is super fun and making conventional things is creatively draining for me. I think working on tags teaches you sooooooo much though.
