Cryptocurrency advice?

I'm not totally new to this but I am pretty inept to alot of things. I am wanting to get into Crypto currency more than just using an online wallet and buying it. I would like to try and learn about mining despite it not being exactly profitable. Can you guys give me pointers on GPU mining and what wallet or wallet software you think would be viable for me to use? All input is appreciated.

My PC in a nutshell

Intel i5 8600k
Nvidia GTX 1080FTW Hybrid

 

I use bittrex and coinbase most of the GPU's I use are 1050 ti, 1060, 1070, 1080 and RX 8GB 580's for dual mining. I mine ethereum for the most part L3, S9 and D3 ASIC miners.

For the GPU's I use simplemining you can also use ethos but overclocking is much easier with simplemining which is why I use it.

For wallet: Use Ledger Nano S, It's a hardware wallet.
