Why the shit would you buy a laptop for gaming? You might as well just piss on your dollar bills and eat them.

Laptop for portability, desktop for power.

 

Building your own computer wouldn't necessarily make a better computer; especially since you're only spending ~700 on it. If you could get someone to help you pick out parts that are still good and won't cost you ~1000+, then I'd say go for it. But I suggest buying a prebuilt computer for 700 and since you can't even build one anyway.

 

USE to be, not anymore. a laptop can have A LOT of gaming power. Sure desktops will always have more power though. For your limmit yeah desktop though. Building your own isn't always saving money though.

 

some people like portable gaming, in this case the user wants a gaming computer which the Asus eee cant provide.

 

The best part about building a computer is that it's fun and you get to custom design every part of your computer the exact way you want it, w/o having to spend extra money when a computer comes with a 320 GB HD and you only need 160 GB, and that's a lot of money to save.

 

or you can be losing money. When company's like HP or dell buy products for there computer they get it a lot cheaper than you would if you were to buy it since they are buying the items in lots.

 

Yeah building computers does not always save you money. And like wtp said they get good deals on products since they buy tons at a time. I would personally rather have the satisfaction of building it myself over buying it from a store.

However your obviously still a beginner with computers so a cheap dell is all you really need...as soon as you understand computer more, then build one.

Well considering they want portable gaming they obviously have a life if they are always going places? I doubt people buy laptops just so they can play on the way to the store or something..

 

You could get a second hand Del Dimension 5130... for around $900.

 

Most likely on the way to some sort of LAN party.

 

Of course, building a computer will get you the exact hardware you need. Though, if you don't know how then buy a pre-built one. However, I don't know if you have heard of Dell or not, don't buy a PC from Dell.

Building one isn't actually too hard, it's just a few hardware components.

edit: Let me just clarify why not to choose Dell. My friends, and my school use Dell, and all that comes with them is problems. Not only do they use old hardware (e.g. IDE hard drives instead of SATA, old PCI video cards, old RAM, etc), they are also hard to get help with. Say a hardware component fails, for example your hard drive, you go to the shop to buy a new hard drive, but you find all the shops only sell SATA hard drives. Now the problems come, in order to be able to use a SATA hard drive, you must now buy a new CPU, motherboard, RAM and video card. This is because your motherboard only supports IDE, and has no SATA ports. So, you must buy a new motherboard, and with a new motherboard your RAM, video card, or CPU wont work on it. This is because Dell have used all of the older hardware, which is no longer purchasable in shops.

I just personally don't like dell ...

I built my own game rig for less than $600 from newegg.com and tigerdirect.com. It plays Assassins Creed max detail, Oblivion on high, works perfect.. I use my HDTV as the moniter =[), so its not included in the price.
