Command.com/DOS help please

so after reading the other thread about dos/command.com not recognising any commands, I noticed when i pressed run and typed in cmd and then any command it would say "____" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

someone on the other thread suspected he was in command.com and not dos, so my question to you guys is how I can get back to dos (as in once I type cmd in run, and enter commands, it realises it)

 

What happens if you just type "help" (no "" of course).

 

that post about cmd prompt was mine and it was in cmd prompt, not command.com idk what happened but no cmds work for me not even "help"

 

Like I said in a similar topic, you may be in Command.com. If not, then your commands have been removed from the system32 folder. The only thing you can do is to obtain a copy of the files, either from a friend, or from some sort or restore cd.

 

Some of the commands are internal cmd.exe commands that don't require other apps to run, like cd/chdir, type [filename], del, ren, exit, etc. Try those?
