Gah the justice system is all flawed in the US, and bail amounts depend on the mood of the judge ;)

No they aren't set on your financial situation because there have been bails set at only $1. And obviously anyone can afford this. Bails are set in terms of your charges, not finances.

If they're so rich why'd they be allowed bail anyway?

Eh,we're greedy bastards. If he had a good financial background, maybe an iffy record with the law. We all know hes gonna have a high bail if he has alot of money. If you could choose to pick up a 10 dollar bill or a hundred which would you choose? I mean hes not gonna charge him $100 dollars when they could get a million out of him. Money is all people care about anymore. So they dont give 2 shits as long as moneys out there.

You're a fucking idiot. You're suppose to be able to pay it. You don't just pay bail and be free to go. The only purpose bail serves is deterrent to stop you from not showing up in court. The 8th amendment protects against unreasonable bail.

Bail is based on flight risk. Flight risk is based on various things including financial status and the crime committed. If someone making $30,000 and had an otherwise clean history with showing up in court was accused of murder and had to pay a $1,000,000 bond it would be considered excessive bail. On the other hand, a billionare with the same court history was on trial for murder, $1,000,000 may not be enough to ensure he shows up in court. If you show up in court you get your bond back...

What, you think they just pull a number out of their asses? They use specific fields to determine the bond amount.

Allow me to remind you - THIS IS A CAPITALISTIC SOCIETY. You can get a free lawyer if you're poor. If you think the lawyer is shitty, don't use it. If you want the same lawyer Bill Gates uses then you better work as hard as Bill Gates to pay for it. No handouts for socialist bastards like you, sorry. GTFO.

OR we COULD just do the right thing and not break the fucking law... That way you don't have to worry about it... And it doesn't take RICH lawyers to get yourself out. It takes half a brain.

That's not necessarily bad. But if he hadn't been granted bail then he would be in jail for a crime he didn't do and never get to prove his innocence.
