ok, so if a doctor did not exist, then someone would die from a common cold.

If there's no athletics, there's no need to stay fit. The doctors who took away sports would constantly be getting calls for strokes, heart attacks, etc. We'd be a bunch of fat(ter) fucks.

Athletes deserve more money. It provides a goal along with health.

The MAJORITY of people, especially kids are in shape because of sports. I'm pretty sure that is more the message he is trying to get across.

But i still stand by my point that doctors should make way more than atheletes. The only way to stop atheletes from making as much money as they do is for you, the people to stop buying tickets for so much, buying expensive merchandise, etc

wow we have a tie, i think doctors should b paid more, i mean they go thru years n years of school n they're helping humanity, athletes r just really a form of entertainment, but i guess watching sports is greater than being saved, huh?

Well, your poll question is "should doctors make more than athletes" and the reverse in your first post...

I think athletes are entertainers like everyone else. They open their life to public scrutiny because people day seem to have a sick obsession with reading about "who's dating who!!! omgawd!!!". I think they should be paid far less than doctors, as sports, although they do take a lot of work, in the end aren't nearly as difficult as those who study for years, continue to do so as the medical field advances, and save lives. In turn, a little more privacy should be given to "famous" people.

I think that with the current situation of sports, you dont know who is a real player, and who is a drug machine. If you dont know what i mean by drugs, then listen to the news once in a while, called steroids.

But doctors study for years, paying loads just to become a doctor (fees, books, etc) whilst atheletes just make money, they put no money into it.

Yes doctors earn in the long run, but some do not.

Thanks gnomey, i just edited my first post

The physical labor that goes into the training of professional athletes is tremendous. Not to mention mental labor, getting prepared to play, play memorization...

You obviously have never played a sport at a competitive level...

All that labor does equate to money, in turn, athletes do in fact pay money to get where they are today...

Yes we can survive without doctors,

    There are 4 physical needs.
    ~ Food
    ~ Water
    ~ Clothing
    ~ shelter [ sleep ]

It would be moronic to say that the path to becoming a doctor is more demanding then the path to becoming a professional athlete.

The need for doctors is certainly more important than the need for athletes.

I would say that anybody who claims that becoming an athlete is easier is a bit delusional. I know what it takes to become a professional athlete, and I know what it takes to become a doctor.

    Was that aimed at me?

    Also.

Doctors and athletes play two completely different roles in society, that makes it difficult to compare.
Would you compare the nutritional value of an apple and a shoe [ exaggeration but gets the point across ]?

Doctors are paid to keep us healthy.
Professional athletes are paid to entertain / win.
If they were both paid to do the same thing then you would be able to compare.

hahahahaha when I saw this thread I thought it was some kind of joke, but then I realized that the person who posted this was being serious. Shredderbeam, despite the fact that you parade around here pretending to be an intellectual owl (who is also a scummy right wing capitalist), what makes you reply to such topics?
