    Challenged and Banned books!!

Of course this is incredibly stupid. Why do people try and force other to believe things, if it's right then people should believe it on their own. I can see why some places may ban things. Places like schools or church, because it has things that teach others the opposite of what these places want to be taught, but this doesn't mean they should be banned all over the country.

I despise the concept of "banned books". To ban a book means that you censor information. Censorship leads to ignorance, and ignorance leads to disaster.

I agree it is stupid, If you don't believe in something a book says, simply don't read it. Really I don't think it should be in anyones power to make the descisions for someone

But if they ban in one place. They have to ban for every reason that they have a complaint about. They shouldn't censor books of this nature at all. No matter were they are.

The thing is that books should be banned in schools to an extent. People should be able to read something when ever they want, what I mean by ban, is keep the school from using them as required reading.

You have to take into account where these books are being banned at. You can't just post certain books are banned. It could be banned in a hill-billy city in oklahoma, where Harry Potter isn't desired by the community.

Precisely. Another big one you forgot, To Kill A Mockingbird. A lot of stuff having to do with evolution used to be (or is, not positive) banned in many places too.

I dont know why Of Mice And Men is up there, it just gives me the impression that the list you provided isnt as controversial as you believe it to be.

Read anything by Upton Sinclair, especially The Jungle, spectacular book, and i believe they just released an uncensored copy.

Check out 1984 as well, one of my favorites, George Orwell is a genius.

Some books are also banned for.. Well... Not being good. They get challenged by parents and communities for not being educational. If you cant take anything away from the book, some peoples opinion is that it isn't worth even having. An example would be "Alice" by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, They said it was sexual content and offensive language but later admitted that it was just useless..

i dont think that any book with opposed views should banned simply becuase of offsensive content, if anything it allows you to see something u oppose from the other side

Laughable. Let's look at the book of books, the Bible. We've got murder, rape, profanity, blasphemy, incest, adultery, slavery, you name it. If that isn't banned, nothing should be.

Ok, provocative example aside, I'm always against censorship. If someone writes a book, and they find a publisher, let them release their book.

Meh, books shouldn't be banned, that's just ridiculous. Just don't read it if it bothers you.

Wouldnt it be like banning porn?

Well, I've heard about banning in schools, which is due to the content being unappropriate for that age group; however, I haven't heard very much about countries and states in the entirety banning books.
