Why is Suicide illegal?

I am against just killing yourself.
My mate hung himself and noone knows why - its that type of suicide that im against.
However, if you have a cronic illness and your in alot of pain, injecting needles, etc. then I think that death could be the best way to put you out of pain.

I believe in an afterlife - sorry - so im ok with death.
We put dogs down because they are injured, why not put a human down because they will suffer for the remainder of their life?

Yes, there is the possibility that a cure could come along, but my mates dad has been holding on for maybe 8 years maybe more now.
He hasnt got aids, he has a lung or liver problem - im not sure.
He was going to just die because he didnt want to put his family through it all anymore, the financial stress added to the emotional stress, and he felt his family should go through it all.
The biggest break through they had was when he had a surgery to make him live another 4-6 years and that was a major thing (because he got to see blake go into highschool, etc.)

But seriously, 8 years or something, and no cure.
There are some things that medical science just cant cure.

I dont know how to put my thoughts into words now, Im sorry if i repeated myself, etc.

 

My mother-in-law killed herself a while back. She and my dad had a fight and he slept in the car. When he went back inside the house, he found her.

From this point of view, there is a part of me saying how wrong killing yourself is, and how many people she hurt by doing that.

Then there is the logical/rational part of me saying the opposite. If I had not had that experience then I would most likely say "Suicide is a choice".

I therefor, will have to side with reason. Although there can be major side-affects, I believe that it is your own desicion and that no body should take that from you.

THIS IS ALSO THE MOST SELFISH THING YOU CAN DO if you know people care for you.

 

first off try not to leave half-assed posts,

the arguement is that a person should have the right to do what ever he/she wants to there body

and the oposing argument is to put it bluntly that murder is muder and that there is no way around it

 

but depending on your religion its not your body

 

yes it is your body also because who has control over it? you do.

im sorry i was tlaking about the for suicide being legal because according to some religions the body you have is gods n that kinda stuff

but bringing in religon into the equation would make it even more interesting considering you have a right to religeon expression in america.

 

They own the country, i think they have the right to be able to do what they desire and if they are worried about people feeling insecure, they might suggest for you to go to a psychiatrist but most of all they won't force you to NOT do anything you want so the point still remains that they shouldn't tell you what not to do, if you feel ready for it.

In the United States of America it is not illegal to commit suicide. None of the fifty states has a law which makes suicide illegal. No federal law prohibits suicide.

You cannot get arrested, fined, or whatever else you might think. Rather, the police have the right to place you in protective custody and they have the right to prevent a suicide.

no one owns the land besides people, and if they wanted the land, they coulud easily take it from government.

 

it is illegal in a lot more places then just the US and it is illegal beacus as state in the official law, anyone who has the ability to kill them selves is not in their right mind and therefore does not have the right to make desicions for them selves, and it isn't like you will go to jail just therapy.

 

People who want to commit suicide aren't necessarily insane. It is possible to be perfectly sane and want to end your own life.

 

It is not illegal to attempt suicide.

Im not positive, but I do believe that in some european countrys (Holland perhaps?) assisted suicide is legal.

Personaly, I have never experienced anyone who commited suicide, but if it was someone I knew I believe I might feel responcible. If it's extreamly unexpected I think it's wrong. But if someone is in so much pain they don't want to live anymore, Like they're going to die anyways - I would be okay with that. I just don't think that people should be offing themselves for attention thats all.

So pretty much I would agree with the method of The Netherlands.

statistically in america more women try to commit suicide... but more men actually succeed (since they often will use weapons as opposed to women who more often use pills)

 

Is it really illegal though? I mean how are you going to get punished by the authorities after you have committed it lol?
