Why is Suicide illegal?

Why is suicide illegal in the US? I heard that it has lots of economic impacts like health care, autopsies, funerals blah blah and psychological effects on close relatives. But really is that reasonable for it to be against the law. Whoever said that the government controls everyone's lives, even to the point that they cannot take their own?

To demonstrate this point, even criminals on death row are rescued from suicide attempts. ??????

People who are disable and dying are also prevented from suicide. ????

It's illegal on only one valid basis, in my opinion. Most people who would commit suicide are mentally unbalanced, and, with treatment, thank those that saved them.

If a person is not mentally unbalanced (and no, wanting to kill yourself does not count as mentally unbalanced), then they should be able to do whatever they want with their own life.

 

No offence to any americans but americans laws in genral are stuffed, i live in australia both my parents are disturbed by the way some of even the police act in america. Ive even seen one attack a 16 year old because he thought she didnt give him the right change, SHE ffs iam so happy i dont live in america or i would want to kill my self to.

I think it's illegal, because if you do suicide, all your friends will suffer with that..

 

I honestly don't think that suicide should be illegal, however I don't think people should ever have to get to that point. If someone is seriously considering ending their life, they aren't in a state of mind to think about the legal system. Sure, there should be laws in place to force people into help; however why do they need to make the act itself illegal. Do you honestly think someone should serve jail time or have a criminal record for attempting to kill themselves.

 

But, the simple fact is the government shouldn't be able to tel people what to do with their lives. The same applies to any government controlled personal function such as abortion or capital punishment in some cases.

 

Most people that commit suicide have mental problems or have some king of serious problem affecting their life.

The sad thing is, in most suicide cases, the deceased has a cureable problem, they just do not have the will power to see through it.

 

It's illegal so that if someone is unsuccessful at committing it they have an excuse to lock you up so you can get help.

Umm well suicide itself cant relly be illegal cuz they cant arrest u when ur dead. If u attempt it yes its illegal becuz it means your mentally unstaible. People who are disabled or dying iss different becuz that cant always be prevented.... and its not the disabled person, or sick person's fault

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again! America was NOT founded on Christian roots! Whatever similarities the Constitution has to the Ten Commandments is completely irrelevant, as it was not used as a basis!

Did you know that a large chunk of the Founding Fathers were Deists? Do the research.

I have no idea why suicide would be illegal... It's pointless, being that nothing can be done once he/she kills themselves... as (i am you aint i) said "its only illegal if you are dangering others in your habits." That can be the cause of illegalness i guess ...

 

jah, when my dad tried to kill himself he did not endanger otheres so he did not get in trouble

if he did endanger others then he would of gotten in trouble

also, why would you punish a person that needs help? seriously..

 

Suicide is the state of mind of wether or not you want to take an easy route out of a small problem...it simply shouldn't be allowed...most cases the people survive. They are put away into a treatment facility for help.

Wrong. I was suicidal for a while, but I was in sever pain. So much pain that I could barley move. I had thought about just taking a pile of paracetamol... It would be the easyiest way.

 

Well, yes. If they have a treatable condition, be it mental, physical, etc., then they should not.

 

But what i dont agree with, is that if you try to kill yourself then you should get in trouble. This is bull. They should be sent to see mental help..not be punished for crying out for help

 

Well i live in America and here are the facts:
1. If you fail to commit suicide then they will arrest you for taking a life.

2. My teacher has told me why it is illegal and why they arrest you and I am pretty sure thats the official reason. It isbecause you are taking someone's life ( like on 1st reason/ fact ) even if it is yours you are still taking it so it counts s murder or atleast trying to if you fail

No offense but i don't understand how you can fail suicide i am not trying to be funny or anything but it is pretty hard to fail suicide whn you commit it, but thats why its illegal.
