This would give up a mans choice of free will. If God wants to prevent evil, such as a man shooting another, He can, but it gives up the free will of killing for all. God lets us all make choices good or bad. Because He gives you free will, and you use it to kill another yet you are not killed by Him before? This is free will not malevosence.

    Does Faith Provide Support?

In my opinion faith does provide support for SOME people. For me personally no, and that may be why im in therapy for being depressed supposedly. When im in this therapy the lady tells me that faith is a sort of crutch for people to use as a guidance, and that people need something bigger than themselves to believe in. This may be great for some people and help them live there lives, but for me personally no, everything has a logical answer, and theres no proof in any type of god.

That pretty much sums it all up. No need over analyzing this.

The only thing is I think more people need religion, or think they do, than don't. Human intellect is a sad thing, people are desperate for a simple answer to an impossibly complex problem.

I want to say 9% of america is athiest and 84ish% is religious.

What's the other 7%? Naturalists/Treehuggers/Crazy people that believe in tree spirits?

For all you know you're just desperate to correct people, and there is a God. It's impossible to know one way or another, so...

Religion exploits the many human vulnerabilities, but it doesn't necessarily make them weak. Many don't need religion, such as myself because it is a suffocative leash that controls and manipulates the believers' lives.

Your saying you don't need a religion because your strong enough to stand on your own?

If a religion was proven true, would you deny it anyways because you say your able to support yourself?

Yes, I don't need a religion because I can stand on my own. Religion will never be proven true, even if it theoretically was proven true, I will remain an Atheist.

You are saying religion is a crutch for those who are weak in the state of mind?

If religion is proven 100% by science to be true, would you remain athiest?

I am saying religion is not an absolute necessity in life, I never implied that it makes you weak.

Can you explain to me how can religion be proven through science? I don't understand where you're coming from.

You didn't asnwer either of my questions, the secound was hypathetical, I was gonig somehwere with both. -.-

I was also saying that you see religion as help for those who are weak, not that it makes them weak, but you also posted
which could be thought of making the person weak to what the religious leaders want them to believe.

I don't see science proving a religion correct any soon.

I believe that religion is used the same way as media, they are both used to subject you to a certain belief and idea. It helps believers through guidance, it sets down certain ground rules and common morals.

It doesnt have to be of a man shooting another,it could be of a child starving in africa. The child has done nothing wrong in his/her life,he believes and accepts jesus christ as his/her saviour, why must he/she suffer till death? This is not free will, this is forced upon them, these children cannot do anything to prevent this from happening, they came into this world with this fate.

I would like to share a quote from Robert M.Pirsig although not very related to this i just thought it was funny =D

When one person suffers from a delusion,it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion.

sooo...you choose the more comforting idea? I'm not claiming I can disprove the existance of some sort of higher being, but my point is most people choose comfort over facts. Also, you contradict yourself by saying their "there is a God" then coming right back and admitting it is impossible to know one way or the other.

By the way, I found that stat on totse.com. Not neccesarily the best source I suppose, so take it for what it's worth. I'm at school so I can't post the link, but I will later.

Re-read the sentence. "For all you know you're just desperate to correct people, and there is a God". FOR ALL YOU KNOW [...] there is a God. What I was saying is that you have no proof that there isn't a God.

I think people choose hope, not comfort. Hope that when they die it won't be all over, hope that those who deserve it are punished, hope that their lost loved ones are happy, etc. To me, religion isn't comforting, but atheism would be torture. For life to have no meaning, that the children who die young of disease will never find happiness, etc, etc. I can't imagine life without faith in something.

I was taught that if your friend is ill, you don't pray for them to get better but to have the strength to pull through.
