    Religion..

    Well, where to start :S

I'm an atheist (do not believe there is a God), I'm not here to overwelm you with facts and statistics i just would like to hear some arguements for an against religion.

My opinion on religion is that it was first created on the absence of science.. not knowing why the sun would rise or what gender a child was born. As humans have grown and challenged theories we have found answers for these questions not understood years ago. So religion has still built up from history.

I personally also think SOME people are scared of dying or what the future holds so they look to god to help them through their lives and i have no problem with that. However, religion can affect other people and this is what i despise about it, what makes one man or woman feel it is correct to cause harm / death to others because they do not follow the same believes as them.

I will hopefully go into more detail if people reply and debate, but as someone once said..

"Religion can cause good people to do good things, but also good people to do bad things"

    (something like that)

I also know that most of americans go to church and some take their religion very personally, Like i said, this thread is not to convert but to debate.

    Religion..

Religion was made after science, people practiced science before religion. And as for a few facts of what we now know, Many religions don't attempt to contradic science.

    Religion..

I never said Science was made after religion, i said religion was made on the absence of science.. meaning things people could not answered turn to religion for the answer..

The Bible says that Earth is only about 3500 years old, Scientists estimate the earth being i think over 400million years old. Surely that's contradicive enough?

    Religion..

Of what you said in the post, and topic above, you seem to be targeting Christianity.

Scientist estimate the earth to be 4 billion years old.

The Bible no where specifies how old the earth is. Creationist believe that the world is anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 years old.

    Religion..

    4 billion :) sorry.

no i am not targeting christianity but that is the most popular religion in the world, over 30% of the worlds population is christian? (sorry if my facts aren't correct i'm trying to remember back to Religious Education lessons)

Just one statement i made refering the bible, still 4,000 to 10,000 is pretty far off 4 billion.
