If a tree falls

exactly everyone knows it "should make a sound" however no one knows for a fact that it does therefore making the tree might not make a sound if it is fallen and no one is there

 

I don't think it makes a sound but tbh, How would it know your there and it makes a sound.

It does, that is all you need to know. This board is for discussions on things that actually have two sides. It is common sense, and you know it, you are simply asking because you know it is impossible to actually prove it does either.

Your question is as valid as me asking, if you take a glass of water, does it empty and refill itself every time no one is looking at it. Common sense would say obviously not, although there is no way to possibly prove it.

Pff in guessing it does make sound as you can test it with animals (someone posted that earlier here...) they will run away as soon as they hear something (take a blind animal, or person), if they don't run away they are just stupid or it doesn't make sound...

Well, you said "...if no one is around to hear it..." therefore you are stating right there, it makes a sound, and are asking, if no one is around you hear that sound, does it still make a sound. You are contradicting yourself.

 

I think what he meant was: "If nobody is around to verify whether it makes a noise or not".

 

Yes, I know what he means, but he didn't actually state it. He's been bragging the entire time how no one can disprove him, and actually he disproved himself from the start. Until he rephrases his question, there is no question.

Even with your rephrased version, to verify it would imply to hear it, which is contradicting itself. To actually state the question in a not contradicting manner is a challenge within itself.

 

From hearing other things like it like the tree you can predict how it would sound like. All things makes sound even if noone hears it.

Look up the sciences of sound...
Just because you didn't hear it doesn't mean it didn't make a sound. So take this for example,
you have a c.d. player running on mars (where there is an atmosphere for the sound to travel) and no one is on mars (no Martians or Astronauts or anything dumb like that) it's still running and sound waves are moving through the atmosphere, therefore making a sound while no one was around to hear it. apply this same theory to the tree and you will find that it does make a sound.

 

The tree thing is one of the most retarded thing ever, a tree doesn't stop making sound waves just because no one's around.

 

You are making this very complicated, think of it like this. If a tree falls and you werent there you would not hear it but if you were there you would. So if you were not there it still would make a noise because you know if you were there you would hear it.

 

I couldn't have said it better myself. If a tree makes sound but is not heard by anybody..it still makes sound because it is called 'sound', it does not matter if nobody hears it. If anybody disagrees then you need help.
