    If a tree falls

Ok this is a stuiped question. Of course it would of made a sound. Its like this... Your in a room full of carbon dioxide. But you can't smell it. Is it actually there? Yes, you know it is when you drop dead.

He proved you wrong multiple times... and exactly, your arguments are just plain stupid. It's not a matter of "what if," it's a matter of thinking. I seriously don't think you even understand what you're talking about.

    If a tree falls

    First sentence:

"Sound is caused by small areas of high and low pressure progragating outward from the source."

A sound wave is sound as much as a pie chart is pie. (and wtf is progragating anyhow? lol)
Sound waves are the cause of sound, not sound.

    If a tree falls

lol didnt look at the site... just googled sound waves. how about this:

If you define sound by the scientific definition, yes. it makes a sound. It still creates vibrations in the air around it.

But if you say that sound is the brain's interpretation of these waves, then no, no sound was produced; no animal was or ever will be able to translate the waves into a certain sound.

Basically what i'm trying to say is that this is one of the most pointless arguments of all time.

    If a tree falls

If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody around
    does it make a sound?

YES!--- but it's not quite what you might think.

Scientists have been dealing with the problem of natural tree falls (and the sound they make--or don't make) for quite some time and have drawn some rather surprising conclusions.

If a tree falls and there is a person around the sound is easily recognized.

If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody nearby, the sound that it makes is very different and often not recognized as the sound of a tree falling.

Either way, there is a sound.

Even though plants do not show any changes to the naked (or lensed) eye, when a human is in their presence systemic biological changes have been discovered that have grave effects on plant life when a person is within 300 meters. This effect is called "human stress syndrome".

Apparently, when a tree is about to fall, if it senses a human nearby the biological stresses of human presence cause the cell walls in the plant to become brittle and it is the cell brittleness responsible for the familiar sound we know as that of a tree fall. The cell brittleness also has significant effects to the quality of the lumber, making it much more suitable for use in construction (see under).

Through the miracle of recording tape, we are able to provide a sound recording of an actual tree falling without human presence.

    If a tree falls

    That counts as an observation.

I think that the vast majority of people are completely missing the point of this exercise in philosophy.

    If a tree falls

If you play back the recording, it'll be the machine that makes the sounds. It's not like it captures sound waves into a magical digital realm where they can't dissipate... >.<

    If a tree falls

It would force the wave-function to collapse (from a quantum physics perspective) so it could be recorded. You can't record a sound that is one tone, at tone A and simultaneously tone B.

    If a tree falls

are you a stupid shit? everything produces a sound wave or a air molecule vibration, if no bodys is there to hear it big whoop? it still made a noise

But how do you know if it made a noise if you didn't actually hear it.

That's the wind moving the air molecules.

    Swearing doesn't make you cool.

    If a tree falls

Technically it would produce sound waves but if nobody is around nobody can hear them.

Sound is a perceptual interpretation of vibration. We call this interpretation hearing.

If there is no one there to hear it, there is no sound. There is just a vibration that would have been interpreted as sound had there been any one there to do that.

there is a rule on sythe on no advertising links..... so i am not gonig to click it

lol!!!!!!! how do you know you dropped dead by the carbon dioxide if you are dead?

since no one is there no hear it how do you know for a FACT it made a noise

nope not owned........ thats air dummy

    If a tree falls

Torque are you on fucking crack? "Its the air" .... wow anything that makes air molecules vibrate makes a sound flicking your finger makes the air molecule vibrate the air does not make itself vibrate, think about it

think about it this way, some body does something that makes a sound so imaging these are air molecules

...<- once they get vibrated they keep vibrating and they hit other air molecules in the air
....<- and these hit other ones
.....<- and these hit other ones
...... it is a chain reaction, so indeed if a tree falls it vibrates air molecules that creates a sound.
    Owned now?

    If a tree falls

    It will always create soundwaves.
