    Need Car Help

Alright im about to turn 16 and im looking into getting a car. My brother works at a mazda dealership and I have fallen in love with the Mazda Rx-8. New, its like $30,000-35,000. In other words, not cheap. Now im in no way spoiled, and in fact would be getting a full time job when I turn 16 to pay for a car. I was messing around with insurance quotes and even though I probly did it wrong, just basic coverage showed up between $700-900. Also known as rediculously high. Thats not even with car payment. So no way in hell I could afford that. Although progressive did say there lowest coverage was between $250-300 a month, however it covered nothing and
pretty much a waste of money most likely.

HOWEVER, considering im under 18 I do not believe I could even hold the car title in my name. So I would use my brother. If he got the car and put me on his insurance It should be much much cheaper right? I would probly be making a measily $1,000 a month starting out with full time so it would have to be under that ammount. Not to mention my brother can get cars for the factory price or w/e its called. So literally, thousands off. And any part I need I can get for a nice discount. So legally it would be his car, and they would believe it to be, however it would really be mine, since im paying for it.

My brother has a mazda 6 and I believe he pays $400-500 a month. I don't know if thats including insurance but the rx8 is more expensive and im sure its going to be greater then that.
I would also be saving for about 5 months and hopefully make $5,000 for a down payment. If thats not enough I could save longer.I could also consider a used one. Which on the street or dealership can sell from $14,000-20,000.Much cheaper but if your going to buy a car like this, I would want it new..From what I have seen though, you can buy one with not TOO many miles for much less.

Is this just crazy talk or could it actualy happen? I know most people usually start out with a junk car but I honestly love this car and I would not mind paying every cent of my paycheck toward it. I know this is a long shot most likely, and I probly have a greater chance if I got a used one but I really just need to know if this would even be posibility.

The Mazda rx-8 is a real nice car. My buddy has one. I honestly think you should start off with a cheaper car. I started with a junker. I guess if you can afford the rx-8, then go for it. Also, are you from the US?

About the insurance, do not get it yourself. I've never heard of anyone paying so much for insurance, then again, you're only 16. You're best bet is to go with a parent or an older sibling. They would get some sort of discount in their insurance if they 1.) Already have another car insured 2.) Are over the age of 25 3.) Have no major driving violations. The one big factor that may raise the insurance costs would be adding someone under the age of 18 as a "driver" under their insurance, in which you are legally allowed to drive the car since your name is on the insurance.

Hope that helped. Couldn't think of what else to write. Good luck.

    edit: spelling :)

There is much more you have to do in life than spend money on your car. If your in the United States you can't even get a full time job at age 16. Think about other things you will do with the money you make buy clothes, food, stuff for girls, etc.. And then if you want to go to college how would you pay for that?

Yes I live in the US. Thanks for the help. yeah he has another car insured but hes 22 and he has no major driving violations. I believe my best bet, if I did buy, would be to get a used one. He has some at his dealership that are around $15,000 and having a $5,000 down payment would definately take a huge chunk of what I would owe on it. My bro first car under his name was a mazda 6 and he bought it new for around $20,000 so I think $15,000 is relativly cheap for an Rx8. I suppose I could deal with having some miles on it heh. I have heard rotary engines tend to need to be replaced so the only thing im really worried about in buying a used car is a good warranty..

Ive done my research, and at 16, there is no limmit in hours you work so you can get a full time job. Unless im just getting false info from websites but I found multiple stating the same thing. I read all about usa child labor laws and what not.
I see what you mean about what I can do with extra money but im about to hit 16 soon so its not like my mom relys on me to pay for my own stuff all the time. Honestly work does suck, and I probly would not do it right now if I didn't have a motivation like this car. I would have to probly walk to work ATM and thats why I really need a car, and I would rather buy a car that will be decent to me then a junker that I will always end up spending money on to fix.

I plan on joining the military when im 18-20 to pay for college.

Well atm i use a nissan micra x model rofl, you need to learn to handle it, like have at least 2 years experience on the road, before you start buying decent cars.

I think there is a certain number but i don't know. My parents bought me my first car, its a 1976 nova. You could have your parents buy you a regular car save a lot of money up. Then you could trade or sell your other car for the car you want.

It could really happen since your brother does work at a Mazda Dealership. He might get thousands of dollars off, including many discounts. I would take advantage of all this and buy the car.

I have been practicing driving for awile, its not like its going to be the first time I ever drove a car. Id buy it manual and I really have yet to try a stick shift car but my brother can teach me that in his car pretty quick. It took him like a week to get completely use to it and im not buying it right now. I have to save for a down payment first.

I hear that a lot though. People say you will just crash it and such because your not experienced. I would be driving like a granny for awile untill I am comfortable with it. Its not like I would go driving like a maniac down the streets the first day.

    Need Car Help

My mom can't afford to buy me a car, I would have to save up my own money, and I know once I save im not going to want to spend it on a junker. My dad left a few weeks ago and no one knows wear he is....
So yeah my mom can afford clothes and food for me but not a car.

I could always get an okay car and just save then do a trade in or sell like you said though. Thats going to take awile though and in 2 years im off to the military. I would like to have some fun with cars before then...

Yeah I am pretty sure he will get thousands marked off, not sure how much. I know when my dad was looking to buy a car he could have got it a good ammount cheaper, and on top of that they would have gave my brother money out of it for bringing in a buyer. My bros job isn't selling cars there though he does something with car parts there..I would still think the discount would be available to him since he would actually be the one buying it though and not just to other people.

yeah im probly going to not be the most experienced driver in it but I mean I have a brother who knows everything about mazdas, its not like he can't help me with it. Mazdas are suppose to be fun easy cars to drive as well...

I would also rather stick to Mazdas because like I said, he gets discounts on parts if I ever need and overall they are pretty good cars.

My second choice mazda would be a mazda 3. A used Mazda 3 is running for near the same price as a used Rx8 and I like the Rx8 a lot better..

Mazda 3 seems to be a bit cheaper for a 2005 model and about the same for 2006...
