Do you think MTX will come to OSRS?

Hey all. For those of you who follow the 2007 reddit, there has been frequent postings about how MTX (micro-transactions) are killing RS3. MTX essentially refers to paying for some sort of benefit in-game (i.e. bonus experience) in return for real life money. It can also be referred to as a "pay2win" method.

The scare here is that if/when RS3 falls apart, that the company that owns Jagex (Jagex is currently owned by Chinese mining company "Shandong Hongda) will bring MTX to the 2007 version of the game to compensate for the loss of revenue from RS3. From the sounds of it, this is something that could potentially have a severe impact on the game as we currently know it as well as the community.

Of course at the end of the day, this is all speculation. If something like this came to OSRS however, do you see many players quitting the game as a result? How do you feel this would impact the game/community? Do you see this happening down the road?

 

It definatly will not come to OSRS... Thats what they know makes it different compared to rs3. If they were to implement it everyone would quit os.

 

As much as they would like the money I think they would know it would also kill OSRS leaving them with nothing so it won’t happen

 

The mods have said multiple times that MTX wont be added to OSRS, even after the Chinese investors took over Jagex.

 

I think I'd rather pay a higher membs price than have MTX.

MTX wont necessarily ruin the game, it depends on what the mtx are imo. In rs3 all the outfits and shit just make the game look like aids

 

What MTX wouldn't ruin the game? Cosmetics are the least concerning lol. The problem is the xp rewards from spending money.

 

Well bonds don't ruin the game and you can basically pay irl cash and get ingame money from it. And xp in osrs is mostly buyable. If i wanted, say 99 crafting, i could buy a ton of bonds and get it in a couple days instead of grinding it forever.

 

Bonds are available to buy in OSRS, to exchange for GP.. This for one hasn't ruined the game. However, to speak of MTX 'coming' you're taking past tense, it's already there and available.

 

The difference is you still have to grind out the skills. Bonds are more a blow to RWT (didnt help) than an introduction to MTX.

 

It terrifies me that Mod Matt K or whatever LOVES transactions.. but no, I don't think they will come to Osrs for the foreseeable future at least. It's been expressed in their live streams many times, although they always seem to throw in "Unless the communities views change" regarding micros. As long as the players protest it, I think we're safe.

 

I hope not a i do think it would kill of player base more... they should leave osrs like osrs
