New need help.

I am completely new to programming but would like to get into it.

I downloaded JDK 5.0 update 14 and set the path. (i think)

Now how do I write a program? Do I write it in notepad or wtf? There
is no program to open to write anything in.

Sorry I'm a total newb at this.

I thought it would be somewhat like scar, where you open a program and paste the script into it.

You have to have an editor to program in. I suggest Notepad+ or Eclipse. You can also write it in notepad, but it is less organized. When you save a java file you have to save it as Namehere.java . Than you need to compile it to a class, than you have to run the class file.

 

Do you have any links to notepad+ or something else? And once i save it to notepad, what do I do to open it up as a program?

 

Go on google and look up notepad+ and it will come up with the site.

 

Go buy a book or read some tuts online...

 

I recommend using eclipse. I found it very easy to use when starting Java.
