    "Gangster"

Why is it that when people these days think of a gangster, they think of a black drug dealer who grew up in "the hood"

When, in fact REAL gangsters were mainly white men living in upscale neighborhoods in the twenties?

Then, when a white person acts "gangster" he is a wanna-b. But wouldn't the blacks be the wanna-b's?

    Discuss.

You don't understand what I am saying. I'm not saying they are considered more gangster, I am saying that they shouldn't be. Whites were the original gangsters, why why do blacks think they are the only ones?

    "Gangster"

Technically "ganster" was thought of white upscale men that wore business suits. Basically anyone who was in the mafia. Though throughout the years the image of "gangster" has changed to a black person from the hood.

Just to inform you that top picture is of an Italian Mobster not white and not a gangster secondly not everyone thinks of "gangsters" as black men from the hood. Lastly all gangsters are pieces of scum that should be locked up behind bars and all people claiming to be gangsters or being supremist should get their asses kicked.

Umm, for one I don't live in a 'rich' house, I am far from poor, but I'm not rich.
And.. shooting shit makes you gangster? Wow, I've been a gangster since I was 8 and had a pellet gun.

And to juvenile, I agree. But it makes me mad when little wanna be gangsters around me who have never been out on their own act gangster.

I'm not saying I have, but they haven't and it makes me mad when they think they are "gangsters" because they are black.

I would say the white one is a mobster, even though mobster and gangster are used synonymously.

    "Gangster"

    Lol no no no

    You have it all wrong.

The gangster you guys are talking about, that people refer to nowadays
is hip hop gangster...That's actually what it's called..

Apart from a few of them, i don't really think most of them are gangsters. It i s just the image they are trying to convey simply because that is what sells the most..this is why i chuckle everytime i hear things like this. Some artists actually have had life tough, and have infact lived in the hood or ghetto, and because of the things they have done they believe they can claim that name.

Just because they have, doesn't mean you should.
IF you hear someone talk about themselves being black or gangster, just laugh it off. it shouldn't bother you...

What amazes me most is the term being black. I myself am black, though i was not born in america, so i don't fully by into the ways that people act here..Being black is not about wearing your pants below your waist, and buying jewelry and all that...Those are just hip hop gangsters and i don't think it really has anything to do with the real definition of the term

Thugs do not equal gangsters. I hate to say it but most of these little black kids in my hood are thugs, not gangsters. The times have changed since the 20's. I agree shaka "butsecks" ka, when most people say "gangster" they think of a ghetto black guy. Thug does not equal GANGSTER. Thug to me = walk around with a bunch of dudes thinking they are hardcore because they sell nickel & dime bags on the corner while carring a .22. When I think gangster, I think organized crime, racketeering, making money.
