Suggestion to get rid of fake gold impostors

Hello,

So recently, I have noticed quite a few gold impostors and I have figured a new way in order for them to get banned faster.

Since these new gold imposters got banned too quickly by posting fake website links, they have resorted to using Private Messages in order to get more people to their fake websites.

Because of this, the only way to currently detect this is by viewing the members online list at the bottom of the forum.

To report them faster, I believe a "report user" option should be added. This is how it should look:


I feel that this would be more effective and efficient since if a "username" is detected as spam then it could be reported and banned by a moderator faster than if it was reported in the RAS section.

I'd like to hear some more views on this.

There already was a report user option which I had used for this but I don't know where it went? @Sythe

 

I support this 100%. Not only should there be a report user button added but when you click it, it should load up the report a scammer section under a new thread with the correct format already pre loaded. Would save the "please read rules and guidelines" post that I see every other report

 

Currently you have to click there name , then hit profile , then on the top corner you can hit report

 

But again this is one of those things that can be quickly sorted by tagging staff in discord, which would get a quicker response than reporting a member or post imo

 

Not necessarily. A lot of staff would rather be more active on the forums rather on discord. That means they would be more likely to check the ModCP over a discord message not to mention aren't we making their lives easier by simply pressing a simple "report" button rather than spamming them whilst they're just trying to play Rocket League or League of Legends?

 

It doesn't even need to be filled out. It just needs to set the title to [Username] and all that needs to be posted is [Name Impersonation], not much really more to it.

Well what is the difference between this + reporting posts? All you're doing is reporting someones username. I would LOVE to hear your view on why you don't believe the 'Report Post' is being or can be abused.

 

Well, unlike report post, reporting a user would most likely have to be looked more in depth by a mod

 

I don't understand how it would have to be looked in-depth to a mod? It would show up in the ModCP as [Username] has reported {Username} i.e. Seraphic has reported PartyPeterrShop. I'm sure thats easy to tell with name manipulation.

Equally, I don't see how "report post" would not have to be looked up more in-depth by a mod. If someone reports a post and the mod deletes it, how do you know the content there isn't genuine. I could go report a bunch of your posts right now and get them removed if that was the case. Wouldn't that just prove that report post can be abused?

Both would have to be looked in-depth regardless and I believe you already can be infracted for abusing the report post button so I'm sure the same can go for the report username button.

 

Just limit PMing to like a 5 postcount requirement? I'd be okay with OP's but 5-10 posts isn't hard to get and would fix this.

 

Yes I meant sending them, not much point to limit receiving them with bots is there ?

 

I'm assuming most of these impostor accounts are being used on Proxy and/or VPN IP's.

Would it be easy to limit the PM feature to home IP users only?

Of course there's some exceptions with some users who do not have Home IP's but make it so these have to apply for the feature?

 

I would like this but they could still have enough time to scam before mods check their IP and give them a twc

 

Perhaps implement an automated system that bans users who register on vader home IP's?

 

There is already a report button when you click on the profile


I think the best thing that could be done is adding a post requirement to send private messages as it was mentioned above, as this would make them a lot easier to spot
