I don't need to play a game to know it sucks

I use forums a lot, and I notice that every time I say that I don't like a video game, I'm asked, "have you played it?" Sometimes I haven't, and I say so, at which the point the asker asserts that my position has just been refuted.

Well, so what if I haven't played it? That automatically means I can't have an opinion about it? Can I not say that diarrhea is a disgusting beverage until I drink it? Can I not say that getting shot is painful until I shoot myself? Can I not say that death sucks until I die?

I'd go on, but everything else I tried to put into words just looked like a rant, and I've already debunked the ridiculous claim I was trying to address.
So I guess, discuss.

 

you can have an opinion, but saying shooting yourself doesnt hurt unless you try it... Thats a fact that it hurts when you shoot yourself... and its a fact that diarrhea is a discusting beverage... But A game is your opinion.

 

Let me put this in to terms, two commonly used in computing: static and dynamic. Seeing as the human mind can sometimes be compared with a computer, this makes sense. Static (usually meaning unchanged) opinions can be applied to things that are either common knowledge or very, VERY obvious.

Dynamic (changing) opinions, they can be applied to things such as videogames, and you will never know whether it sucks or not until you play it, and even if you think it sucks, many others don't, so you don't really need to badmouth and rant about things which the average kid (or adult) thinks is great.

Older gamers will agree, considering when they started gaming, anything with more than 3 colors was considered advanced graphics, and anything other than a ball and paddle was considered nail-biting gameplay.

 

No, it means your opinion is bad.

You have to to be well-acquainted with a subject to have a decent opinion on it.

-Most people are very well acquainted with the taste-smell correlation, being a part of life, hence the logical opinion that diarrhea would taste bad.
-Most people have felt pain cause by object pressing in on their flesh and/or puncturing it. Hence the assumption was bullet penetration would be no different.
-And you certainly know nothing about death, so you can have no good opinion on it.

So, what grounds do you base your opinions on these games? Watching videos of people playing it? That's not enough for games of today. Can't be summed up so easily.

 

I agree with you,i hate WoW even if i didn't play it and cruel,hating a game because you saw someone playing it can be an opinion,but yeah trying it is the best opinion.

 

Well put. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but their opinion is generally only valuable to themselves.

 

Agreed 100 percent the people who ask "HAVE U EVEN TRIED IT????" are just annoying douchebags.

u know i really do feel and respect ur point even though i really dont understand it lolz imma reread it after this post but.. it kinna ticks me off when peeple rant and flame me when i post about my opinion ya no? they make a big deal out of nothing but a simple opinion and its not really worth it.maybe they just do it to get thier post up who knows but it gets me really ticked off wen that happens to me.(hope i stayed on point).
