So, should people be protected from competition at all costs?

Him calling the lady a bitch to her face isn't slander. Slander is a statment that harms the persons reputation... Now the next day at school he probaly did a bit of slandering. But wouldn't you? Don't act like the bigger person.

I agree that it is private property, and that a business has the right to deny service to anyone.

Anyways, freedom is a term that you define for yourself. Just because migrant workers are taking jobs from the people of the US doesn't mean we have any less freedom, and why would any of you insult hardworking people. The ones who go and break their backs for 8.00 and hour. They run this country children. Their jobs don't make them any less intelligent than yourselfs. My grandfather owns a farm, and works damn hard. He has a Masters in aeronautical engineering, and an IQ of 158... How many of you are able to say that?

Get off your damn pedistals you guys think you're on. Can't wait till the bunch of you have to go work out in the real world, pay rent, ,electric, gas, phone, cable, insurance, a car payment, and support your families.

You cannot call someone, in public, a bitch and expect it to be covered under free speech.

I do work in the real world, I do pay bills, although I am not supporting a family. I've done a shitload of work in my life and you have no fucking reason to insult that. Don't stick your nose up something when you've got no idea the shit your about to smell.

Is the U.S. Truely free anymore?

Bothering to explain this when the point of his post wasn't refuting anything (such as a statement that America is a democracy) wasn't something I considered. I assumed the point of his post was to say elections were "set up" or everything was controlled, or something to that effect, so I used the same term he did when asking why he said it.

If someone says that palm trees in Michigan being cut down is a threat to the enviornment, I'll be sure to point out they're talking about the wrong type of tree, and then move on the question about (what I'd imagin is the main point of the comment) the enviornment.

So you read two words, not even the details of the first post (generally used to get into more details about the title) and put in your own irrelevant two cents? Please keep off the Aims of Punishment thread... its not about torture. (It's about the death penalty, but you'd need to read the first post to know that). Consider using more than one sentence in a post?

So is this about you not wanting to go to a friends house to skateboard (and regardless of what marks you leave behind, that store would be liable if you got hurt there because of negligence in letting you play there knowing its not made for skateboards) and a store clerk feeling that they don't feel confortable with you in their store or is it about illegal immigration?

In terms of illegal immigration - as far as I'm concerned at least the job is staying within the US rather than just being sent out. Maybe that job will encourage people to begin the application problem rather than sit in a Wal-Mart factory in China.

The biggest difference between foreign labor and American labor? We have so many rules and regulations (taxes, unions, minimum wage, "break time", construction/assembly line end times). Between all this the costs go up, and jobs go down. In other countries, it's whoever wants the job can take it. Because of this, their wages (and production costs) are lower, so businesses can sell products cheaper by employing them. If an American citizen wishes to worjk the 1AM-5AM shift in an auto plant with no breaks, by all means go for it! But if no US citizen wishes to, and someone that doesn't live in the US will, the only difference between having them do the job within the US borders as opposed to big companies building factories in other countries is we have a hope of collecting taxes from them (or later their kids when they have to register to get into schools) and if a US citizen is willing to take the job they can. (Oh, and we can make sure that the fact foreign car companies aren't sued far less than American ones because its more work for lawyers to get the information they need from those foreign automakers because international laws don't hold them to the standard US companies do). The concept that DRIVES the US economy is competition. Deal with it or find another career path.

Anyways, pick a topic and stick with it.

That's what I was referring to Shawn_ , don't show your ass in public.

    slander

A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because slander is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. If the statement is made via broadcast media -- for example, over the radio or on TV -- it is considered libel, rather than slander, because the statement has the potential to reach a very wide audience.

Slander is exactly what I said it was. It has nothing to do with a statment from one person to another that doesn't include other people. He said it to her directly with no witness. At least that's what it seems to be. YOu probaly would have called her a bitch too at that moment.

    Workers of the world, unite.

Or at least in the United States.

I sense I think I agree with Gnomey, but only out of my innate intolerance against skaters. The nation isn't coming any less free because you were booted out of the parking lot for being disrespectful to a customer.

But it is getting less free because of other things (or maybe not. Ron Paul propaganda is confusing.)

A sign of the apocalypse. o_O

You bring up a good point. Under the original theme, storeowners enforcing their right to deny service to anyone they please is an example of the principles you claim people no longer have.

    1. How do you know they are illegal immigrants.
    2. THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO THAT. Do not try to use a law (that does not exist) to protect your rights while infringing upon others.
    3. NOT TO HER FACE - SLANDER.

Now, shut the hell up and stop telling me what slander is/isn't.

And if you didn't say it loud enough for her or the cop that gave you the ticket to hear it, then how'd you get it? You realize if someone had done that in their "small town" about 50 years ago they would have gotten their ass beat in with their parents belt? Sometimes I thnk physical discipline may get across a point... Anyways. Was "bitch" meant as a compliment? I'd imagine not. As such, it was slander. Period.

If some kid was using my driveway as their personal skateboard park because I was the only person there I'd have the cops pick them up for trespassing. I'm not sure you understand how much that business could have lost if you got hurt (even if ts because you were using the wheelchair ramp as your own personal skatepark).

Neo Nazis are permitted to protect and (when needed) are protected at those rallies because it is their right. When those groups choose to march through a Jewish town because of that population (and this actually happened) they are prevented from doing so because is it meant to intentional harm the people (or a person) of said town.

The first amendment is honestly one of the most well protected rights (at least in my opinion). You hear about cases of it every day, and over time it has grown stronger. You were wrong, get over it.

    calm the fuck down, damn.

everyone has an opinoin shawn your not the only one that matters so if you would stop being a dick in your posts Id really appreciate it, or just stop posting on this thread.

I still get physical discipline gnomey, so dont go there. And I she didnt get a ticket for telling me to fuck off in the drive through, did she? She couldve easily told me to leave and it wouldve been that, but no. Its not like I was using someones driveway, I was using a parking lot in a small mall at 10 pm and I wasn't even skating, I was chilling with my friends just hanging out. And they wouldnt get in trouble if I got hurt because my mom owns the salon on the same parking lot and wouldn't have done anything about it.

why the hell would you bring up the nazis?

    An opinion?

No. It is fact that what you did is slander her reputation publicly. There is no "second opinion". If this were a topic regarding changes to the legal definition of slander, then yes, it would be an opinion, but this topic is about what you did. What you did is slander the women's name. That is face, and is no longer an opinion.

She didn't slander you, nor insult your reputation by telling you to fuck off, she just told you to leave in a mean way. "Fuck off" is not an insult on a persons reputation, however "bitch" is.

If you are going to come into Something For All and pretend like you have something intelligent to say, at least be willing to change your mind if you are wrong. (This comment is not directed at any specific individual)

Welcome to the club - and it works. I don't go around calling people a bitch. Did the police officer hear her tell you to fuck off? It's her property, she can tell you to get out of the store if you want. From what I understood from your first post she did tell you to leave, you thought it was "unfair" so you called her a bitch. Obviously, asking you to leave wasn't it. And you're apperantly giving us only us part of the store because you never mentioned a drivethru. Either way, she was probably ticked about you being a snot when she was getting you to leave.

    Driveway = Private Property
Business Parking Lot = Private Property

It's the same thing. If they don't want you there, you have to leave. It doesn't matter what time it is. Legally, it would have been negligance if they saw what you were doing, ignored it, and you got hurt. There are some pretty silly lawsuits nowadays, and this one is all to common.

I brought up Neo Nazis, not Nazis. The reason I brought them up was to explain an extreme example of how Freedom of Speech is still protected, as long as it is used to express their opinion rather than to target a specific person (the clerk) or small group of people (the people of that particular town).

so your saying, if a cop comes up to me and trys talking to me on my property I can say fuck off? i mean, im just telling him to leave, in a rather mean way, aint that right? isnt it?! wait.. no its not. And its not her property, she was a lousy worker there, thats why shes fired now. She didnt ask me, she told me to get out and wait, while it was snowing outside, and while 3 other kids sat in there eating, any part of that right?

what didnt you get about my mom owning a salon on the lot and her not filing a lawsuit against them if I got hurt did you not get?

Now see, I'm so glad you tell us the whole story... but even so. If a cop were on your lawn and you asked them to leave, and then the cop threw a tantrum, called you a bitch, and was angry that it was cold outside so they wanted to stay, then yes if you told them to fuck off you would probably be just fine.

And the person who threw you off has any guarentee that your Mom wouldn't want free money how? It doesn't matter if she owns a salon on it or not. The person that sees you skateboarding and does nothing would still be liable because of their negligence.

If a cop comes on your property, you have every right to tell him to fuck off as long as you stop there. If you don't become someone who is "disturbing the peace" you'll be fine. O no.. it was snowing outside..... Life hard. If you don't like the policies of a store, don't shop there.

It doesn't matter. They still have the right to kick you off their property even if your mom has said she wont file lawsuit. I'm also willing to bed your mom does not have the head lease, and thus is not the one with the ability to kick you off the property.

What don't you get about private property?

you are actually a giant dumbass first off your basically saying if they immigrated they are illegal? you have no way to prove that let alone any semblance of thought process to come to that conclusion

(you only seem to care about your rights not others) for instance you were mouthing off the gas station attendant, while you may have freedom of speech to do so, she has the freedom of speech to tell you to get the hell out of her shop and off her private property.

You moan about how you were skating in the city and you get in trouble. I bet there were signs posted and shop owners had asked (or told) you before that you were not allowed to skate there. Oh and don't even tell me that you had never been told you weren't allowed to skate there.

You say you live in a small town...basically you seem like one on those little jerk offs that think "omg the world hates me"

and the truth is..NO THE WORLD DOESENT HATE YOU, JUST STOP BEING A LITTLE BITCH AND START READING SIGNS.

    gf u tried.

The question is "Is the U.S. truly free?". One country can be freer than another, but still not be truly free, you know.
