Why is murder wrong?

Then it's moral only because God said so.

God's existence is not 100% knowable. It cannot be proven either way. However, if we assume that an all-good, all-powerful God does exist, it is impossible for us to know his will due to flaws in the way that he can make his will apparent. The Bible could be just a book written by people who didn't know what they were talking about. Revelations experienced by people could be hallucinations, etc.

 

I use "knowable" only in the common sense. The sense that assumes knowledge exists and/or the "knowledge" you have is of equivalent certainty as your own existence.
You could, of course, question all knowledge.

 

Well, if God appeared to you in a majestic vision, and predicted the events of the next six months for you, and it turned out to be true, you could claim that it was all an illusion or something. However, this vision would serve as proof for most people. I find that reasonable.

However, there are many religious texts around the world. Not knowing the nature of God, how do you determine which one is the correct one?

 

obviously wrong because it is the taking of a persons life.....unless it is purly in self defence, as in they are in attempt to murder you

 

Why is the taking of a person's life wrong?

 

Murder isn't wrong. It is unjust in the Up-To-Date society that we all live in, though.
Noone clarified the true reason why murder would be wrong or right. We've just been given warnings not to murder.

Murder creates emotions. Those who wear there emotions and feelings on the sleeves of their arms are affected by murder. That is to say, when it is a loved one.

So called leaders today are trying to make a perfect world, yet that will never happen while there are the stupidity of others. There will ALWAYS be the stupidity of others, but people are too engulfed in themselves to see that.

Murder, nevertheless, is not wrong. It is however unjust and cruel. A large portion of me says that I have not answered your question.

It would take someone an Inch from death to answer this question.

I've heard it before .. Explanations why murder would be wrong or right. Someone out there, there are those traveling to the ends of worlds seeking the answer to this question. I'll leave it be ..

I'm beginning to like these threads .. What do you know ? There ARE people who can have intelligent conversations ...

 

From what i think Murder is wrong is that
ur the one that doesn't have the choice of taking away someones life or not

You are not in any position to make that choice, but some people put themselves in that position because they feel like it.

 

I'd say murder was right if it follows these rules:

1) If the one to be murdered has been labeled as not fit for society by harming and in essence killing many people.

2) If the one to be killed has willfully confessed that he did intolerable crimes to society.

3)If the crimes of said person has been so damaging that it would cause the end of society for all we know it if he did not die.
(Ok, maybe not that extreme.)

4)If the innocent lives of children has been lost because of what this man has done.

5) If he has broken the unwritten laws of man, that is torturing, harming or killing anyone without any regard to human life.

You've proven the unjustification and the cruelty of Murder. It just barely begins to skin the surface of why it is wrong. Pretty big breakthrough in the question.

Well, the definition of "intolerable" seems to vary from person to person.

Racking my brains, I can't think of a single instance of where this would ever be the case.

Oh, why are children deserving of a special category?

Killing them would seem to be revenge.

And murder is wrong on different sets of eyes. Think about it, right now. If someone has just killed your family, don't you have the urge to kill the one that has killed those that you have loved ( or not) ? But in the eyes of the "law" it is not right to kill even if they did such atrocities ( I like this word ). This ladies and gentlemen is the reason for differing points of views in Capital Punishment.

 

If I have the urge to take revenge on the murderer of my family, that is an instinctual response, and does not offer insight as to why murder is inherently wrong.

Murder is wrong because maybe in a human's brain the death of someone close of just the death of someone brings back the thought of way back when; where one needs to live others to survive.The thought of back then, you know time of the homo habilis, maybe? Another of the same species would have been an integral part of a roving band of primates. So maybe our thought of murder being wrong is just a leftover feeling from the time when someone dying might cause your entire life to change, like you dying.

 

It's not exactly related to the subject, but it ties in with it quite well.

People argue about why guns where created.
But imagine the world without guns and just swords and spears, bows and arrows etc.

What i'm trying to say is that using a gun is a more humane way of killing someone if you had to kill them at all.

Rather than trying to slice/stab them to death with a sword.

I'm trying to say that if anyone deserves to be killed it deserves to be a humane killing.

Unlike the Ukraine Hammer Death in the ukraine where three 19 year olds went around and killed about 21 people.
First they beat them unconscious, then smashed there face in with a hammer and then stabbed them with a screw driver, also impaling it into the brain etc. They recorded this on their phones and put it on there computer and went to the funerals. Where after the service they filmed themselves jumping on the the grave etc.

They got caught in the end and they said they killed this many people in this way for "fun" and it was their "Hobby" how messed up can you get. I mean after hearing about it you want to make them suffer.

Theres a video on the net somewhere with one of the killings but i won't post the link because it really is graphic and i only got to 45 secs.

But if you type in "Ukraine Hammer Death Video" It's around 3rd or 4th. It's like a topic on the video, the video is at the bottom of the page.

But i advise you don't watch it. It just stays in your mind for ages and is really horrible.

Your taking someones life away from them..

 

I tell you why murder is wrong, because in the United States of America, we have these certain unalienable rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Thus, by killing someone, you are taking away that person's unalienable right to live; which was given to them by the Declaration of Independence.

Question answered, time to move on.

Because murder is breaking the law which the rest of the world live by so it would be unfair if for the people who actually follow the rules if people who murdered got away with it.

2) Nothing was given by the Declaration. The Declaration is a piece of paper. The human morale, the will the keep humanity alive pretty much says to you you shouldn't kill other men for no reason.
