You cannot compare pi to .333... or .666... or .999..., since they are rational and pi is irrational.

If you are arguing that .333... is irrational you are way off, again pi cant be compared to this since it is irrational.
I never said infinity is a number... How many times would you have to add a 9 to make it equal to 1? There is no number that can, you would have to go for infinity.

Numbers can be infintesimaly small. .999 = .999
1/3 means one devided into three.
    2/3.. two devided into three
You can't devide any whole numbers to get .999

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

And as I stated, I have changed my views on that theory.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

2/3 does not equal 0.666, it equals 0.667

    Code:
     .333 + .667 = 1

    1/3 + 2/3 = 1
    10x - x = 9x?
    why isn't it 10*.999... - .999... ?

There's too many flaws with our maths, as was argued on the first page.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

i dont believe it is . if 0.99 goes on for eternity it will still equal 0.999* it will never get to 1, However if rounded it obviously does get to 1..

If anyone can provide proof it equals 1 ill be happy to say im wrong :)

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

I wrote before, that I disagree the fact that 0.999... equals 1. I've discussed this for long with a friend of mine when we had nothing to do (retards :p ). However, the discussion didn't go anywhere, so we decided to ask a math genius.. luckily we're having this guy in our school at the age of 18, which got to be the 3rd biggest math genie in this year's world cup might be k21 world club, not sure, but he's more clever than me, saying a lot

He said that it's equaling 1. And today he gave me a simple equation, that I could not disprove!

taking the never ending 0.999... and subtrahate it by 1, and what you get? 0.000000000000 .. arg.. many zeroes? huh.. in fact, infinite zeroes... which is the same as ....hmm ... 0 and a thing we don't need a math genie for, is that one subtrahated by one is 0.

    0.999... - 1 = ?

    1 - 1 = ?

    ? = 0

    0.999... = 1

    cool!

that equation made me very expressed, and convinced, that it's equal. Said by a guy who knows his stuff!

The one is never written, you cant have anything come after a value repeated to infinity.

You have 3 apples - you gave 3 away. what do you have left?

    HALLO

You have a number that is not a fraction / decimal.

I can conceive of infinite zeros followed by a one.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

    How?

How can there be something after the never-ever ending phenomenal "infinite"?

Jailed in my thoughts, it is simply impossible, using logic thinking.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

Well, if that's how you think you shouldn't be able to think of infinity at all, but only an ever-increasing number of 9's.

I can conceive of infinity just as you do, yet I can add a 1 on the end.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

    There is no end.
    0.000...000...000...
and on and on. There would be no place to put in that one.

    Unless you're speaking of 1/10^infinity
    then that's zero.

    Does 0.999... equal 1?

Then with .99 repeating, it would just be .999....9999....999. With no end, and no point at which it equals 1.

Well if you take the .000... argument, then you agree. The difference between 1 and .9... is nil.

There is no argument. 1 does not equal 0.999...

Nothing can come after an infinitely repeated pattern. The 1 goes away.
