    Is this a hardware keylogger?

I found this in my school connected to a bunch of computers at my school which has very high protection and strict rules. Some of these don't even connect to a lead, they just hang from the computer. It doesn't reverse the port thingy, it just looks like a tiny extention. So this lead thing doesn't help towards anything so I wonder why my school has them. It says "No Power" on a label in middle. Also can someone tell me what the end of the lead is called (like instead of USB or ps2). It looks like usb but with a rounded end.

I googled a picture of a hardware keylogger and they look almost the same.

In that picture of the "Key phantom" the bigger chunky end is to put a flash drive in and the other end plugs into the computers usb slot.

So what happens is once its connected it records everything that is typed and saves it onto that usb flash drive.

Actually I think it saves to the phantom and not what you connect to it. Because if its in your computer and people see it as a normal extension, and connect there usb into and it saves logs on usb lol. Why would they use a 5 inch extention?

I have one of those from a wireless network adapter. It was used so instead of the adapter sticking out horizontally, you could bend it to stick vertically. Useful when the computer's against the wall, and you can't have stuff sticking out.

Probably the same thing's happening in this case. Also, I think the picture is just a joke, about a "usb keystroke recorder"

Also, the rounded usb-like cord is a fireware port. You can find more info on google

I DOUBT your school would spend 200+$ for a hardware keylogger for each computer at your school. It would be way easier to just get a software one and autorun it on all of the school account.

But I'm still not really sure what that is. One end is USB, and the other is firewire.

    Is this a hardware keylogger?

My school is a private school that costs $1000 a month for each person. But I have to got o it couse the only other choice I had was this school where pregnant kids take their babies to =/.
They own a complete set of adobe products, flash etc. They also use something I think is called crossview that allows the teacher to watch what your doing. The security on the computers is stupid. You can't even change your password. $200 dollars isn't much for this school.

@Pheonix = What are you talking about? I'm not making up a story. I just want to know if my school are recording me when I'm searching the internet.

Also it's not a USB to firewire, because the ends are the same, but opposite.

EDIT: I thought about it being an extension, and it looks like it when you google it, but why is it so small? The hard drives in school are placed right behind the screen so It's not like you cant reach the firewire port. If you can reach the screen, then you can reach the port.

It's a extention, and it's called a IEEE 1394 cable extention or something like that, you can connect camcorders to comps with it.
