UPDATE: ALPHABAY AND HANSA HAVE BEEN SEIZED AND SHUTDOWN BY LAW ENFORCEMENT. OTHER MARKETS ARE TO BE CONSIDERED SEIZED AND DANGEROUS TO ACCESS. USE EXTREME CAUTION.

Alphabay has gone offline and has been down for roughly 9+ hours, leading to speculation of an exit scam following the Australian Medicare freakout, alongside a few HUGE bitcoin transactions into a monster wallet. Overall funds to this wallet are approximately $957,500,000 worth of BTC. This bitcoin transaction and wallet are not sufficient evidence to prove or even really make accusations. Around this time, the market has been expecting a huge overhaul in the zCash system and other improvements, and I personally believe this may be the case, but of course, could be wrong.

A reminder - never leave any crypto-currency sitting in a wallet for too long. Keep it fluidly moving, and always use private wallets.

So much for crytocurrency being the "next best thing". At least a bank is not gonna randomly take all your money if they end up having to close down for whatever reason.

 

You're just talking to talk. Talking but saying nothing. One shady darknet site or even all combined going down is not an indicator of the success of crypto currencies. You sound like one of those people that think they are solely for buying drugs. Their impact is yet to be determined but to rule them out and make a stupid comparison because of one site going down? Dumb. It would be more like Amazon going down or ebay... Alpha Bay is not a bank nor is it supposed to act as any sort of replacement.

don't agree with me. I know what is sold on the darknet and so do most others. My point revolves around your lack of knowledge pertaining to crypto currencies and their wide breadth of usage. But I am not here to educate. I just saw a forum post that rubbed me the wrong way. And you just did the exact same thing... talked for the sake of talking... You think that adds any sort of value? conversing with someone that is obviously more well-versed on a subject? A response is supposed to strengthen you side. A few posts, specifically here, and by big_muscles has confirmed this is maintenance and the site will be up again asap.

For now, Hansa is great, but it is 99% drugs.

OT Alphabay has done this before. It's in all likelyhood no big deal, no need to panic.

 

Exactly what I've been trying to reiterate to folks. It happens routinely every 2-5 months. This time it's for zCash and fixing a withdrawal bug that has been going on for awhile. No surprise there.

It's still down. Recently there was a raid in Quebec, hardware was seized. Not looking good, at least for a little while.

DeSnake (alleged owner of AlphaBay) has committed suicide in a Thai prison while awaiting extradition to North America for crimes in Canada and the USA.

AlphaBay is lost.
All administration is on the run and funneling any trace of BTC/ETH away from incriminating BTC wallets.

I had feeling this wouldn't be an exit scam, ofcourse the information could be un-true, but my feeling say that this is what really happened.

This guy looks very friendly and i'm pretty sure this guy would never do an exit scam ...

I just want to ask people not to blame this guy for anything, this is some of the most emotional news I've read in a while.

Sadly it has come out this was an orchestrated raid by DEA, FBI, AG (Jeff Sessions), EuroPol, InterPol, Dutch Police, German police, and other agencies. They used Hansa as a rat trap (Seized June 20th), shut down AB (July 4th), everyone scrambled to Hansa (July 5th), and raids began on July 5th across the globe, and they are currently identifying buyers, vendors, and making arrests (for large buyers + vendors and market staffs)

 

Honestly, the best course of action is to wait it out, ride it out, and wait and see what happens. I hate to hear you're missing out on medication due to this shitshow, man. :/

Looks like the owner/creator committed suicide and also looks like they've gotten personal info of members of alphabay....

 

What a coincidence, the day I find out this place even exists is the day it's gone for good

 

Mainly vendors and admins, and the only ones in trouble are ones who don't practice neat and fairly effective OPSEC. Always maintain safety, even if just browsing.
