    Building a New Computer

I am working on building a new computer, I have never built my own computer before, and I am working on making the best my money can buy. Right now money isn't an issue since I am just going over what I need and want. I was wondering what your guy's take is on what I am working on buying, and if you guys could possibly suggest better hardware and/or software

So far here is what I got

    Dynex® - ATX Mid-Tower Case - Black - $69.99
    ASUS P5K WS - $256.99
    Core 2 Extreme - $1,149.99
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB Hard Drive - 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA-300, OEM - $379.99
    Windows XP Professional - $299.99 and/or Windows Vista Ultimate - $399.99

I don't think you should buy the CDs for the windows operating system... You could always get it off warez or torrents...

Don't forget about the power supply which I think you need a lot of...

I think its good for now... but I am not gonna tell you to add more or less because I am lazy to search...

Wow! Core 2 Extreme? Thats like the best processor on Earth! Looks like your going to need problably 2 fans. I suggest Artic Cooling fans, although they are water coolers it keeps your system cool! I would also suggest a case that holds Artic Cooling fans. Id also suggest you get Windows Vista becuase sooner or later things will only be available for it. Another thing, your joking about the 1TB hard drive right? I have a computer with a 500GB hard drive thats been used for 4 years, and I have never even came close to filling it up. At your budget id get a Leadtek GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB Graphics card aswell. If you finish this, id love to see it.

Change your Vista back to XP.

It isn't worth it, Vista just takes up 15x more RAM than XP does and XP is a lot more useful.

No. you are so wrong. Go cry in a closet.

    Get
    E4400 CPU
8600 -8800 (if you can afford) GPU (yes its a dx10 card but you dont HAVE to use dx10, dx 10 is still bugged)
Get some standard mobo that supports this
    200-500gb hard drive.
    Good cooling chassi.
Dvd RW burner. and youre good to go.

Pm me if you want me to like pick out some stuff for ya.

Do you really want to know what I am going to do with my computer, lets put it this way, I probably wont need a new computer for 5-10 years (unless we have the biggest technological advance of my time) my current computer is:

    an HP a705w
    intel celeron 2.93 ghz
    1.25gb of ram
    Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV
    RealTek AC'97 Audio
    a 55gb hd and 36gb hd
    tsstcorp Dvd/CD drive

Its an alright computer, but it is getting to be pretty slow, so I have decided to go spend a few thousand on building a computer.

Omg, so many people have been over this, the service pack doesn't fix errors, it fixes security leeks (or atleast that is what the service packs did in XP)
