Rapid increase in suicide rates

The suicide rate is increasing. Why is that?

Suicide rates are up 125% when compared to statistics from decades ago. You can't really measure why this is happening because the brain itself is difficult to evaluate on grounds of complexity in conjunction with the many different reasons that cause people to have suicidal thoughts or attempts. In my opinion, social media is a big reason for this increase. You're more susceptible to bullying, and looking at other people's lives through a window only to compare it to your own may and can cause depressing thoughts. In your opinion, why do you think this increase is this high?

 

Hard times - The unemployment rate is up, small businesses are not flourishing as they used to, the middle class is shrinking rapidly. The list goes on and on.

 

Social medias are definitely not helping people that have suicidal thoughts, I agree.

Although we can't blame them, youngsters are too easily influenced by social medias. It's always been a question of following the trend and it will always be, sadly. From my point of view, it's like if adolescents literally skip a part of their childhood by doing or trying things that they should do later in their life, i.e. drugs, like the text quotes.

More generally speaking, I think society has reached a roadblock. Yes, there will always be jobs in the infrastructures, health, food industry, etc. The world wont stop from aging. What I'm trying to picture is we do not have the economic boom the past generations had. There is a lack of prosperity.

I think it's the internet to blame, especially social media.

 

It's not just adolescents. There is a significant increase in middle-aged men also committing suicide. If we compare the state of society from past decades to now, you would say there is more prosperity now than there was back then. From acceptance of sexuality to personal views and drugs being a rampant issue in the 70s and 80s. Not to mention economic disparity. In the 80s, unemployment rates peaked at 10% for 10 consecutive months and a double-dip recession was also an experience.

 

This is really easy to explain. First off you cant think of it as a person taking their own life. You have to think of it as someone who wants to relax. Throughout highschool i loved donating blood. The feeling of your life slowly slipping away only stopped by a measurement is really fascinating. I use to get high smoking like 5-8 grams of weed to get away the feeling of slowness is addicting. I still have this addiction. Probably the only reason why i have not done it is that i have to take care of my family. I work hard play hard. Also because of this addiction i made stright A's in highschool i told my sell for every test i make an a on i get to get high and for everyone that i make a b and lower i have to quit for a week to be honest i think that only happened twice


When you drink a glass of water when you are hot and thirsty you are relived and it makes you happy.

When i walk into the shower i turn on MCR music and see how long i can hold my breath. Some times i can pass out if i hold on long enough. Its to escape the pain and darkness that fills the void in your life. My life is fully paid for i have everything going for me and yet my actions are as followed. Some times we as people want to value life by how close you can get to losing it. Most the time people die from suicide because they want to escape. To escape is the only way to live.

Hope i explained this well if not i can give you and in depth feel on my thoughts.

 

I think it's because of certaint drugs like meth and heroin it's sad when in certaint areas that parents shoot up heroin and over dose with there kids in the back of there car. But I also believe that social media plays a role into all of this.

I think media and the perspective of how we humans should be and act. If you are your self its easy to get alot of shit on social media but if you hide your true self its easy to dont get alot of shit. Acting like you are not urself often causes you to feel depressed witch is alot of the reasons behind suicide, so i think the reasons its high is cause the media is making us who we should be, not who we are.

 

i think its increasing because of banking system bank offering loans for everything and very easily which make people life difficult each day and most of them either become bank rupt or attempt suicide

 

I watched a short documentary forever ago on the effects on social media. People see people posting the best moments of their life and people represent themselves unrealistically so others feel like failures. I don't know why suicides are up, but this might be a minute factor and i thought it was interesting.

 

Life is changing faster than people adapting.

 

Everyone is so sensitive nowadays, shit needs to calm down.
