Will Discord become bigger than Skype?

Skype has that black market feel to it. Discord is more casual and appealing imo.

 

Skype offers better services for one-on-one such as share screens (and sounds with the new update), intuitive messaging, and personalized sounds making it feel like yours.

Discord on the other hand is a good option for larger groups that would be overbearing for something like a skype group chat such as getting notified every time someone posts something. Pretty much, it's easier to manage people in those groups and set up a hierarchy.

 

Probably in a year or 2, skype has been getting worse and worse since microsoft bought it, and when you think they can't ruin it more they find a new way to do it

 

I honestly think it's already bigger than Skype, who uses Skype anymore unless you're doing business deals?

I haven't used Skype for a good 6+ months unless it's for MMing or buying gold.

 

Microsoft have for some unknown reason to man flooded Skype with adverts now... it's almost as if they want people to go over to Discord.

Personally I feel they want to get rid of Skype and re-launch a new program that does more or less the same thing. Skype existed before MS bought it, so things like the name or the brand may not be in line with what MS would prefer to have (just a theory).

 

Skype has been getting worse while discords been getting better. Would not be a surprise if discord surpasses skype as the "default" platform in a year or two.

 

I don't see why people are dismissing Skype just because they no longer use it? I never use discord and always use Skype, but I don't say discord is inferior to skype.. I still think both offer the same service but differently; it depends on what you're using it for. If I had to say something inherent skype has over discord, it allows more privacy.

 

As a Discord noob who's only just started using the program, I'd say it's certainly better than most communication programs out there. But I still prefer using Skype. I've been using it for years, it's more of a personal preference for me. I however though use Discord over TeamSpeak though since I find it better to talk with friends, and it's much safer.

 

Only thing I hate about Discord is their username format with the #### makes it very annoying.

Doubt it. Discord is much more niche and is heavily catered towards gamers. As long as it remains niche it probably won't surpass the broadness of skype. The majority of people who use both apps usually prefer Discord though

I really hope so. Skype has irritated me so much in the past couple of years that I really hate the times that I need to use it. Discord on the other hand is so lightweight that it never crashes or freezes for me.

 

Never used discord, is it like teamspeak?

I reckon it will at some point in the future, I'm sure they're implementing screenshare/video call into Discord soon. That's what I was told by a friend yesterday anyway.

 

Until its treated with a higher level of seriousness, no. Skype is regarded a business contact platform, where as Discord is currently a fun gamers app.

 

WTF is skype, literally people r saying shit I don't understand like RS3, Microtransactions, EOC

I personally use discord with people who are reputable but if it's just randoms, I'll use Skype. Only thing is to pair Skype up with a VPN while using it because of the IP grabbers. Discord is much safer and easier, but Skype also can track that people deleted their messages and such. Basically it's whatever suits you better, you use.
