Do animals have rights?

Peta sues to give copyright for 'monkey selfies' to macaque who snapped them

If you remember the story, a macaque monkey snapped a photograph of itself through a photographers camera, and now the question is being begged through a lawsuit PETA issued against the photographer which is "Do animals have rights?". In your opinion, do they not? Is not being able to consent through speech enough to not have rights that we humans have?

 

Please forgive me if this is going off topic , but aldous Huxley and Albert pike once said that when the fabian socialist / communism tyranny is in full motion , humans will wish they had as many rights as an animal or a tree.

 

I think that law suit is Crap tbh.
The monkey should have rights but getting to copy right the photo is non sense.

 

No. Our "rights," as you would call them, are made by Human beings for human beings.

Animals do not respect our rights, they live in an uncivilized world that human beings occupy. Therefore our rights should not apply to them.

 

they have their own version of rights such as anti animal abuse and cruelty laws. But because we don't see the average animals intellect as being anywhere near our own we eat and use them without a second thought. We Don't view animals as having the same rights as us, if they had actual rights we couldn't sell them, keep them as pets against their will, breed them for specific qualities, or use them as guinea pigs for science and other tests.

We mass breed and kill animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens to feed ourselves which no one really cares about because we like affordable meat. We don't care about any other life that isn't our own. I'll eat a good steak any day and not even think about it.

So back to the exact example a monkey owning a picture it takes with someone elses phone is a stupid argument/lawsuit by stupid activists that'll never make any real change other than ruin their own reputations.

 

Rights are human constructs. Animals don't automatically have rights (nobody does), but whether they should be considered to have rights is a different question.

 

Couldn't have put this any better. Animals, however, abide by their own sets of rules in their own societies based on their natural instincts and intuition.

I believe humans shouldn't classify themselves as having more rights than any other animal on the planet.

Just because we have the ability to communicate; understand and do more things in the world than other species; we shouldn't use that to take rights away from animals. Wild animals have the right to live in their natural habitat unharmed away from human intervention; but sadly that's not the world we live in.

This doesn't go for animals such as cats and dogs; they have been bred for thousands of years to live alongside humans; they should have the right obviously not to be harmed and live a good life; the above paragraph is for wild animals such as monkeys etc.

To an extent. Humans have such terms as "extinction" and "endangered". While we try to keep endangered species alive, extinction is a natural occurring process. I'm from the north and Canadian Geese live/are around here, yet we can't mess with them because that is animal harassment on a international level.

 

They don't have rights in my opinion. As long as we are at the top of the food chain, it will continue to be this way.

 

They have their own respective rights as set by governing bodies, do they have equal rights to human beings? Absolutely not, this new progressive and extreme-left mentality is getting to be ridiculous.

 

Animals have a right not to suffer at the hands of humans.

Animals and humans do have different rights, but intact people should respect animals regardless of you believe they do or don't, such as animal abuse, they have the right to not be abused it's just the fact that they have no voice to report it, animals in fact do have rights but shouldn't follow some laws based off human rights

 

Animals have rights but they're different rights, the have rights not to be abused, but that's probably the extent without thinking into it to much, if we own an animal, we are their master.

 

People less than 200 years ago used to be able to say, without thinking into it too much, if we own a slave, we are their master.

So, does ownership control rights?
