Pain and other figments of feeling

How do you know that pain and other figments of feelings aren't just things created up by the imagination. I know many of your are just going to say, well go pinch your self and you'll find out. I believe that there are more forces at work than just nerve endings that when you pinch yourself you react in pain or displeasure. So tell me what you think about this? Are you a common scientist who says its just the nerves in your skin that react to the pain! or are you someone who thinks theres some more behind this?

    Brain exists.
    Therefore feeling exists.

Pain is merely as you said, an electrical signal. Some people have learned to control pain, like some monks. Look at paralysis, your nerve endings are cut off from recieving electrical signals therefore unable to react with pain or pleasure. It's as simple as that.

technically they are a figment of ur imagination....or you brain at least, pain itself is just an signal that is used to tell ur body not to do something because it is receiving damage

    OWNED!
    Im with science.
    But seriously.
Pain is something that is necessary.
From you CNS -- electro signal --> brain.
It tells your body something is wrong.
If you felt no pain the risk of Severe / serious illness is heightend tenfold.
I.E You cut yourself and you don't feel it. You can preperly look after it [ disinfect, cover etc. ] It could leed to infections which could spread throught your body till your found dead.

This is an alternative of the "brain in a tank" situation. Unless there's a chance that you will awaken from your dream, this is your reality, and you'll have to make do.

    Enjoy.

There are some people that can "Blank-out" pain. Although I'm quite sure that pain isn't just something you imagine.

A new born baby has never felt pain - If it touched a fire, Why would it imagine something that hurts it?

Pain is nothing more than nerve endings-nothing else is at work there.

Your body senses that it is being attacked, and informs you in a way that makes you stop the attack. Period.

pain is to keep you from harming your self, if you placed your hand on a hot pan you would remove it very quickly because it hurts. If pain was not there you would burn your hand off.

Pain and other figments of feeling

Pain is a signal sent to the brain to know what's happening with your body.

Scenario: If you didn't have pain and you broke your toe, how would you find out if you were wearing a shoe?

You wouldn't. That's why there is pain.

It's all in your head, but that certainly doesn't mean you can ignore it.

But why does it have to be so intense? Why can't you just get some nagging signal when your leg's cut off instead of intense, blinding, suffering?

If you get a pin prick, you won't pay attention to it. But if you get your leg chopped off, and didn't notice (lol just an example..)

you'd notice is quicker, because of the pain.

More serious injuries come with more serious pain.

I fully understand the concept of pain, I was just inconsequentially ranting.

You wouldn't wear shoes in the first place, you can't feel pain. Shoes were originally made so we could walk on hard surfaces, like rocks and gravel, without hurting our feet.
