Kimi no Na wa. [spoilers]

Just saw it in theaters. The best anime movie I have ever watched and may be the best movie I have watched period. Have you seen it and what are your thoughts?

I actually just saw this today. I really enjoyed it. However, I can see how some people could get confused at some of the Japanese rituals depicted in this movie, so I'm wary of its appeal in America. Though I feel like the movie is charming enough to have universal appeal. The story itself isn't unique, but I thought it avoided a lot of cliches, and made it interesting. I might have liked to see more of what happened between the two main characters at the end of the movie, but I suppose that wouldn't have made for better cinematic ending. Great movie altogether, though. I would love to see a live action adaption (if the quality is sustained).

 

I think the rituals won't really be an issue because they aren't absolutely critical to the story and people can understand stories/rituals that cultures can have. The biggest downfall in my opinion will be because it is an anime movie. Yea learning what happened to the two afterwards would be great but also the way it ends means you can make the ending up however you want. No one they could pull off a live action adaption. The art and locations for the story were absolutely gorgeous. Would probably still watch it if they did though.

 

Okay seriously. I watched this movie because of this post.

I never get emotional during any movies.



But holy good god I was feeling something fierce when they were at the twilight part.



This movie was incredible. This is going down as my number 1 anime movie i've ever watched, I don't know if there will be too many more movies as good as this one for the rest of my life.

P.S the OST is ridiculously good

 

Glad you liked it! The 'Magic Hour' scene is definitely a powerful one especially with Sparkle by RADWIMPS playing in the background.

 

This was an amazing movie. I'm just a little upset because there was a time leap frame where they went to teenagers to adults without discovering their long lost other until adult age. Like we didn't witness the events they went through growing up after that mountain scene

 

They could have put in at least 3 minutes to flesh out the story after the mountain scene I agree.

It was pretty shocking to me though, because I'm used to stories ending sourly. So the time jump actually caught me by surprise and gave it a bit of hope.

 

I mean what would you want to know that we don't know already? We know Tessie and Natori are getting married, no one died from the impact because they evacuated, and it has been 5 years since it happened for Taki and 8 years for Mitsuha. The only thing that happened was probably just filler stuff. I doubt they had any major life change. I think the fact that they are grown up means there is a higher chance they would stay together. Thoughts?

How'd taki feels when all his other friends got his relationship ? Perhaps he felt a longing but could t quite remember what it was. How did his life change after that incident? The same applies for mitsuha. It's about character development after these scenes took place which is what make it really interesting. Like after a main character experiences something traumatic , how that changed them. Regardless yes they meet together at the end but I would have like to see that development phase .

 

Oh I see now. Yea I agree that would have been cool to see. I mean obviously they still felt something missing as you see them recognizing things after the meteor.

 

I've waited so long to watch this masterpiece of a movie. Is it out in NA yet? I can't bear to watch a shitty 480p of it on torrent sites.

Finally got around to watching this and I have to say it was quite disappointing.

The ending scene ruined it all for me, Don't think it could of ended any worse :\

I guess mainly because I didn't read the English title and the whole thing turned out to be him just trying to remember her name, Which in the end he never said to her because the ending scene was bad.

 

Uh, I don't think you saw the right ending scene lol. What happened exactly in the ending scene?
