I've only been watching basketball for 6-7 years, but in that time I never remember a year where playoffs were so mind-numbingly boring with the thought of "this doesn't matter" with every game being played being in the back of my head..right when KD signed with the dubs everyone could see a Warriors and cavs final and lo and behold 82 games and 2 rounds later here we are

Entering a little late, but let's get it on! Cavs fan here; more so a LeBron fan.

Cavs are in a nice groove right now. They look totally different this year as far as attitude/confidence. They are setting it up nicely for a rematch in the finals.

I could see that. If Cavs take a win @ oracle, well, then I think it'd be in 5.

Nah it's not going to be 5. The entire NBA playoffs have been one sided, the NBA is going to milk this series for all it can. If that means referees have to call 50/50 shit 90/10 in favor of the team down, it's going to happen.

That series is going 6, probably 7.

Cavs are playing the best but they've also played nobody near the Warriors skill. It'll be good.

It isn't a conspiracy, it's happened before and it will happen again. Warriors end last years series in 5 if Draymond Green doesn't get suspended IMO.

The NBA looks for any legitimate/borderline legitimate method they can to prolong series. They're a business after all.

They're not trying to get a 5 game series in the most hyped final in quite a while in the least competitive playoffs in decades.

I should clarify though, I don't think refs need to get involved for the Warriors to push this series past 5..because I think the Warriors are actually the favorites to win, not the Cavs.

Besides, picking one team to win in 5 is severely underselling the other. The Warriors have also gone undefeated on their side in a better conference. If Lebron slows down even a little in his output, they won't be able to keep up with the four headed monster that is Golden State. And Golden State isn't going to be fatigued at the end of this series like they were last year after OKC took a lot out of them. It took Lebron AND Kyrie playing out of their minds to win in 7. Now Golden State adds Durant to the mix, which I think compromised chemistry but increased their talent.

Golden State is still my favorite to win it, but I'm rooting for the Cavs. They aint doing it in 5 though. Next to zero chance. The Warriors aren't the Celtics bruhz. This is going to be easily by far the best team for so many different reasons that the Cavs face.

I'd argue the Warriors are going to be the more motivated team too with Durant hungry for his first and the Warriors having a full year to think about blowing a 3-1 lead in the finals. All of those factors coming into play there's just no way I see this being a short series either way unless someone REALLY chokes.

Yeah I guess you never really know the true criteria they judge it on. It sounds like from the judgment that actually decides the award that Lebron is not going to win it, but I guess we'll see. Lebron is obviously the best player in the sport, and I don't think it's particularly close, but I think Russ deserves MVP. Historic season.

Source for that: LeBron odd man out on MVP finalists short list

Lol it's the NBA, they've all played each other and are used to "Warriors skill".

They beat the Celtics (#1 seed in the East) by 40+ points- I'd say they're playing on a level that will prepare them well for the Warriors (or Spurs lol). No doubt though that Warriors are a whole other beast in the West. The Cavs might be caught off guard, but would re-adjust.

    Good points my nig.

I just think it's hard to simulate the Warriors with the trash out East. Like yeah the Cavs obviously are familiar with them, but they only play 2 times a year. I really hope the Cavs beat them because I can't stand the Warriors, but I think it's going to be a tall task. Sadly the Celtics (my team since I've been 5) are not near the ceiling or talent of the Warriors/Cavs (or even a healthy Spurs for that matter). The Cavs just stick Lebron on Thomas and it's game over basically. Don't really have that luxury versus the Warriors, especially now with Durant, just another headache for them to deal with. They could barely handle them without him. And Durant's probably going to go off in the Finals knowing that this will be his best chance in his career thus far to finally win a ring.

The Celtics are honestly just lucky/happy to be here. The Warriors would be beating them by these margins too I'm afraid.

I don't disagree the Cavs could definitely win this series, I just don't see it going 5 either way. The teams are too good and I don't trust NBA refs (yeah that's a little tin-foil hat conspiracy theorist I admit) but when you have had guys like Tim Donaghy in the league, it's not all conspiracy theories. I don't think the NBA is biased one way, but I do think they want to maximize their revenue and the easiest way to do that is to get long series. I think this Finals will save us from a very dry and predictable lead up to this moment.
