    Marijuana Vs. Alcohol

Before I begin, I would like to bet a VERY large amount of money, hypothetically, that you have never smoked the good herb in your life. I don't see how people who have never tried it can think that they are knowledgeable in whatever bullshit their trying to argue against marijuana/alcohol consumption. How can you say you know the effects of something you've never experienced?

    1. Bullshit. It depends on the weed you get and, of course, the person. It DOES affect different people in varied ways and for varied lengths. I've smoked with different people who have come down before me, or after me, or at the same time. I used to be a habitual smoker, and the only thing that's changed is that sometimes my mind just blanks, but I regain myself about twenty seconds afterwards. Nothing along the lines of "Chronic effects... for the rest of your life." That's just a bunch if ignorance being spouted.
    2. This is dependent on your age. If you're under 21, in MOST cases, marijuana is MUCH more attainable than alcohol. Also, this is dependent on where you live. Though there is more alcohol produced than marijuana (because of it's legal status), make no doubt that consumption levels in most areas is around the same.
    3. Trust me, in most areas of the U.S.A., marijuana is very, VERY easy to get access to. Also note, alcohol leads to liver disease/failure and blood problems. Ever heard of someone getting 'smoke' poisoning from some buddha? Fuck no, but there is a very real threat known as alcohol poisoning.
    4. Wow, your first sentence makes NO sense. Mr. Expert here is apparently unaware that alcohol itself is ALSO a depressant. This is why you are tested for horizontal gaze nystagmus during a field sobriety test. ALL depressants cause HGN. (Note: Easy way to get out of a failed HGN is to claim to have a lazy eye. It works in most cases. =D) True, marijuana impairs judgment and depth perception, but if you're a habitual smoker, these effects are near non-existent, unlike as with an occasional smoker. When a habitual smoker drives under the influence of marijuana, believe it or not, it makes for better concentration and more alertness, dependent on the amount smoked. I, myself couldn't control myself when I smoked only occasionally. Once I started smoking habitually, it gave me focus. When I would drive, I would pay more attention, and I would make sure I wouldn't make any mistakes BECAUSE I was high. Though, as aforementioned by me, it DOES affect different people in varied ways.
    5. There are only two reasons that alcohol is legal in this country. One being the taxation of alcoholic beverages produces far too much money for the government to just ignore. The other being that prohibition failed, miserably. It is my belief that if one is legal, they should both be legal. Also the contrary that if one is illegal, the other should be as well. I don't condone driving under the influence of either, it's straight up wrong and ignorant.

Now, for my own points, rather than just counter the wrong ones.

    1. Moderation. I have only seen this brought up once in this thread so far...
Marijuana and alcohol should both be consumed in moderation.
This is the biggest, most important point I can try to get across.
You can sit here and blather on all day about the negatives concerning both, but I have NEVER seen anything bad come out of MODERATE consumption of either.
Along with moderation comes the ever popular saying, Know Your Limits.
The two go hand in hand.
Bad things aren't generally going to happen while having a good time (with either stimulant) unless you pass your limits.
You aren't going to go out and do some stupid shit if you're just chillin and enjoying a slight to average buzz.
It's when you get completely shitfaced when bad things start to happen.
And even in these cases this can be avoided by just staying in a familiar, friendly environment with people that can take care of you.

    2. Long-term use. There are many misconceptions about long-term use of marijuana. I'm going to give a small example here... Me.
I, myself, was a very habitual smoker of cannabis for a good two years. I also drank when I couldn't afford buddha, but this was rare.
And I mean habitual. EVERY SINGLE day for a good eight, maybe nine months of that two years, habitual.
Now I know what a lot of you are thinking... And FUCK YEAH it was expensive!
    lol =D
Anyways, I was pretty much high 24/7. Did this stop me from performing essential tasks, such as work, or school? No. Did this make these tasks MUCH funner and, in a sense, easier to perform? You bet your ass.
Now people (moreover, the Ad Council) seem(s) to think that even occasional use of marijuana leads to such things as : laziness, forgetfulness, lack of drive/motivation, ignorance, addiction, etc.
I was far from lazy, otherwise how could I have paid for such a habit? People who claim they experience laziness are getting some extreme weed. What I mean by this is either REALLY shitty shwag, or REALLY bomb chron... Or some creeper, i.e. Sonoma Coma... (fucking bomb, btw)
I'm not going to lie, marijuana DOES affect the memory. Sometimes I forget what I'm talking about mid-sentence. Though, this only happens once in a great while and doesn't last more than a good twenty second until I remember and continue on.
I experienced NO lack of motivation or drive whatsoever.
I didn't get one grade lower than a B, and if you would be so kind as to note my intelligence and above average grammar... Does this look like the writing of an ignorant individual?
Addiction... Wow. If I sat here and tried to tell anyone I wasn't addicted, I'd be a damn liar. I do believe, however that isn't the marijuana itself. I believe I was addicted because of the chance it gave me to ignore/escape problems. Though I didn't have bad, or many, problems I loved just being able to let it go. Reality.
Anyway, it wasn't hard at all to quit. I quit cold turkey and never had a single overwhelming craving.
As for marijuana being a 'gateway' drug... That's complete bullshit.
I never once touched anything other than alcohol and marijuana.
Nor did I ever get so much as a desire or curiosity to try anything more.
I've always said that I will try shrooming and acid when I'm quite a bit older, like around 75+, just to be a fucked up old man. But this had nothing to do with marijuana use, this was far before I smoked.

Anyway, I'm getting tired of writing so damn much and trying to make points in vane, so this is my conclusion. Alcohol and marijuana are very comparable to one another. I do believe alcohol is the worse of the two, though with moderation I believe anyone can have a grand old time with either. Thank you.

    You double posted.

Why would it be peaceful, because everyone would have a lack of motivation and don't go to work, and then society plummets to the grounds?

    Marijuana Vs. Alcohol

Infidel, don't arbitrarily assume I've never done weed before.
I do it at most, twice a month maybe. In fact, midnight madness is on tonight, and my friends got some herb waiting for me.

    1. That is not ignorance, perhaps you should use a more logical term next time.
Again, that is just you. Do you think everyone that has ever done weed has the same effects from it as you? Maybe that's where your trite use of the term "ignorance" should have been.
Obviously different people will have different responses to marijuana. Oh wait, according to you, everybody has the same response to it. Where was my head on that one?

    2. How is marijuana more attainable after a random age? It is not dependant on age, but more so on your area.

    3. Alchohol use is tantamount to marijuana use. And obviously if they only smoked "a little bit", they're not going to have much negative effects.
You may not hear much from heart disease and cancer from marijuana use, but it's still out there.

    4. Alcohol may be a depressant, but is it as bad as being under the influence of marijuana? No, because the short-term effects of alcohol don't last as long as marijuanas, and the fact that marijuana is a stronger depressant than alcohol. And you're right, it does effect different people in different ways, just like alcohol.

    5. What I'm saying is to keep weed illegal, legalizing it would only produce more problems, so there is no logical reason to legalize it.

I don't have much time, I'll add more later...but for now... this is my opinion.

Many instances of domestic violence, many car crashes, and other deaths, yes, are related to alchohol, BUT alchohol isn't a mind altering substance if used in moderation. No matter how much marijuana you smoke, you WILL get high, and you will NOT be in your normal state of mind.

Now first off, many states/restaurants have taken action to stop drunk driving, such as only allowing 2-3 drinks per person for the night (or visit). Again, if used in moderation, alchohol isn't mind altering. Marijuana, however, as I said before, will ALWAYS alter your state of mind, no matter how much or how little you smoke.

Smoking marijuana, like cigarettes, is also bad for your lungs and body. (Common sense, comeon, inhaling smoke into your body? Yumm)
Alchohol on the other hand, again, if drunk in moderation, can tremendously help your heart.

Now, marijuana might not be as lethal as other drugs, and I'm sure you've heard this before, but it's a GATEWAY DRUG.

A lot of people smoke marijuana thinking it's not that bad for them, which sometimes it isn't, as it's also used for pharmaceutical purposes, but then they start to think, well, if I can do weed and not get serious side effects, I can do other mind-altering substances, and they won't be bad either.

You think that's bullshit? I've seen it happen to 3 of my best friends. One is in juvy now for posession and distribution of crack cocaine, and the other two are well on their way there. They're not the same anymore, don't look the same, don't act the same, and what did it all start out with?

    Marijuana.

And really, to see that happen, WILL totally change your opinion on this matter, at least I hope so, or else, to be honest, you really don't care about many things, do you.

I think what jaamal was trying to say that it's a slippery slope between legalizing marijuana and legalizing pretty much all narcotics.

Many of you are making the argument right now - because cigarettes and alcohol are bad, marijuana should be legal too.

    K. Let's give you marijuana.

    A day later:
Because tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana are bad, you should legalize narcotic X.

Mm. I think I saw this argument used in a gay marriage debate once.

But - it's not that marijuana is bad that I want it illegal. It's now for economic reasons.
(When I was young, a program called DARE was in effect in my school... and they told me that marijuana is a gateway drug. I don't think they tested this hypothesis.)

You people are ignorant. Marijuana doesn't affect ones personality. Sorry but i know this first hand. Worst case scenario while smoking weed is blood shot eyes and inability to pronounce your words correctly.. You can't TELL me what state of mind I'm in it doesn't work that way. I'll tell YOU how i feel when "high". Like a lifting feeling going up down and all around.. almost as if i were in the air..."high".

But i feel the same.. I talk the same. I read the same. ...just get cotton mouth....hate that

The thing about alcohol is that it is pretty much owned by the government. Same with cigarettes. The government makes these products legal because they use these products to make their money by putting loads of tax on them. People claim that alcohol is not a drunk when it has been proven that it is because of the effects it has on the body. Marijuana is illegal but does less damage to the body that cigarettes and alcohol. Why is Marijuana illegal and cigarettes and alcohol not? Thats an easy question to answer. The government can not control Marijuana meaning they wouldn't make any money from it since Marijuana can be home grown. Cigarattes and alcohol can't be home grow therefore you would have to go through taxes etc in order to get these products.

Yeah, I was high and I talked to my MOTHER on the phone. She had no idea I was high, I can act fine when I have to be and I can control myself on marijuana. It's just more fun to let loose, and relax and just laugh. It's a good experience and I'm glad to say I will never do any other drug besides marijuana.

If those are thonly two things you feel then why smoke marijuana? Why not just go jumping off of trees, then air will be all around you with no cotton mouth.

that is sad that the only way you can exscape and let loose is to be drugged up.

I have lots of friends that smoke marijuana, but do any of them smoke crack, shoot heroin, or take some acid?
    No.
There's a little something called peer pressure that could've easily gotten your friends to try crack.
Since crack is extremely addictive, you only need to try it once.

Alton Brown is a funny guy.

    Yes indeed.
    (Microbrew. Good stuff.)

But really, that's not the reason. If you have the means, you can produce whatever you want. Look outside of the US - go south, look at the disputes that drugs cause.
