Neither did Preds for half the games versus the Blackhawks. Sign of the better team is winning games you get outplayed in.

 

These two teams didn't decide the division until the last day of the season. Aside from experience I don't see why Ducks should have been viewed as sizable favorites.

Experience is a double edged sword, especially for a team like Anaheim that with this core has blown many series in the past. Trying to chase and avenge those ghosts can negatively impact your team. I feel like the Capitals suffer from it too. The only real remnants from the Cup winning Ducks team are Getzlaf and Perry. The latter of which has struggled immensely this season.

The gauntlet seems to be being passed down here. I'd be shocked if the Oilers blew it now. A sweep would be less surprising to me at this point than the Ducks winning 4 of the next 5. Ducks punched them in the mouth multiple times in both games and got nothing out of it. That's going to be tough to come back from. Not to mention the raucous Edmonton crowd on deck for the next 2 games.

I'm confident at least 3 / 4 of my picks gonna be correct (Blues/Oils/Rangers). Capitals might have been stupid given their propensity for choking. Rangers dropping Gm1 was surprising as well. Predators blew a golden opportunity tonight to basically bury St Louis.

Lotta people saying Niskanen is wholly at fault, but hard to deny that his hands (and stick) were at chest level, and Ovie's slash looks to be why Crosby fell over and got rocked.

Was gunna say lmao. Getzlaf is a beast. Oil has no answer in regards to him. Outside of him though, Ducks arent any problem for the Oil. If you took out McD and took out Getz, Oil would be far more better off as an overall team. Ducks wouldnt even tread water

Lol bro who knows. No idea how they dont see Kesler grabbing onto Talbot's pad to the point he clearly can't pull his right leg pad in to stop the 5 hole goal.

Collapse in the third was ugly and McLellan should have called a time out to settle the boys after the second goal. I understand he was likely saving it in the even of a review, but fuck, Oilers have to have by far the lowest percentage of successful goal challenges in the league (while simultaneously holding the record for most goals disallowed because of the challenge), so what is even the fuckin point>

It's frustrating. Seeing games like this shows how evenly matched the Ducks are to the Oilers, but it's unfortunate having refereeing being the tipping point in the scales.

P.S. big shout out to the Oilers blue line. Only 5 deep since 4 minutes into the first period. Going into second OT and having a guy who has played 42:00 minutes, when he usually plays nowhere in that time range, is not a good thing

Canucks fan, gunning for they Oilers this season because my team is literal trash and I want Canada to win the cup.

Yah the call fucking sucked. But for real-- 3 goals in the last 3 minutes. That's inexcusable. Unfortunately, it seemed like the Oilers were winded by the time 2OT hit and the Ducks pretty much got unlimited shots on goal until they won.

Talbot though, 65? shots blocked. What a beast.

That being said, this is the best game I have watched since CAN vs. USA 2010 Gold. And one of the best games I have ever seen.

We can still do this, we're gonna kill it on Sunday and have a hell of a game 7.

 

Ok here's the other thing about Oil letting a lot of shots through: vast majority of em are from low % areas or from the perimeter because their defensive system keeps largely keeps them to the outside. Statistically, talbot plays best when he faces a lot of shots, so when other teams are getting a lot of shots on net, it's essentially what the Oil want exactly

 

How does this work exactly, just like a mental thing? Or 'plays best' as in sv%, so a higher number of shots might still be going in? just curious

THere's a stat somewhere that shows I believe the Oil have won more games when they've been outshot than when they outshoot the opponent. Goalie not facing a lot of shots = gets cold, taken outta the game perse.
