Linux is better then both. The only thing is Linux can't run windows games without Wine. They're fixing that though.

You all need to switch to vista. Soon all new games will require vista. If you dont get used to the OS now then you will be ashamed when you are forced to switch.


LINUX.. screw linux ffs unless you are running a server. The only reason people use linux is to look cool or they are a programmer. If you just are an ordinary person dont even bother with linux. Most people just install linux for a little bit and reformat to windows to play games.

Vista just pisses me off. It runs fine, but its annoying as fuck. Its security model is a JOKE. Word 2007 is a pile of shit too.

I like linux because there is a lot more customization and I can make it work the way -I- want it, instead of the way some random microsoft programmer thinks it should. That, and it actually has sane resource management and doesn't try to thwart me with DRM every 5 seconds.

Thats not even bringing the software incompatibilities into play. Lots of stupid games I play won't work on vista :[

 

The only reason I will be using Vista after this weekend is because I'm a whore for games and my machine runs it nicely :>

I have a laptop with shit specs. It ran XP slow as fuck with 512MB RAM. I installed Vista over XP, guess what? It ran FASTER. Vista is more memory efficient, for which I credit Microsoft. If only they'd cut down on the caching which uses up my precious gigabytes ...

Linux > All. Thats IMO. I voted Vista though because its a thread about XP and Vista, not XP, Vista, and Linux. Linux is the most efficient out of all of them, due to how it manages things. Its CPU efficiency is noted, and its Memory usage is next to none. It doesn't use the crappy NTFS filesystem (Ext3 ftw) that Windows uses, hence there is no disk fragmentation on Linux either. Theres also way less of a chance of crashing (how about never?) and it is much more appealing to anyone who has at least a tiny bit of smart in their brain.

 

Alright you have a point on the run the way you want it for linux. Thats a nice feature.


But really the security model?

Well if you simply go into computer control mode you can shut off UAC and everything. No more annoying pop-ups. I completely removed the internet firewall and all that bs i did not like (not every os is perfect)

After that I put Zone Alarm and it ran perfect.

Vista has a LOT of customizations. Most people just cant find out how to use them.

You can do TONS of stuff with windows vista that you cannot do in XP.

Vista has EVERYTHING built in. You can set up task for your computer to do things all by it self without the need of any program installation.

 

Couldnt agree more, People hate on vista way to much on here when their P3's cant run them for shit. Btw cody did you know dx10 will be available for xp

 

I like xp betetr cuz im used to it , but obviously vista is better , its newer with fmore features

 

I also agree, Xp is much more straight forward than vista. But you just have to know how to work with vista to get it the way you want, And alot of people do not want to do that.

 

I wont believe this statement until I see a quote from microsoft.

I think this only goes for vista but its not "actually" Dx10 running on there but it allows you to get the exact same effect by editing some things around. Im sure that you can do it with many other games no doubt?

I'd have to say XP, I'm more used to 97/XP way. Vista took a big jump for me, and just to advanced.

I grew up on 97.
