No it isn't, it's against JAGEX rules, not the LAW.
Now theoretically Jagex could sue for damages caused by gold trading, or the violation of the Terms Of Agreement you agreed to when you made your Runescape account. But I by FAR doubt this is the case.

If it was against the law, you wouldn't find Runescape gold sites on the first page of Google if you search "Runescape". The same would go for any other MMORPG out there. Geez =/

Sorry about your loss, must have taken a while to get that at like $3 per mil wow.
    1. if jagex has contacted them this does not give them right to close your account and not provide you with information.
    2. even if you got that money from selling rsgp that is your money now and they have no rights to take your money, like I sell my music cd and use e-gold and the music company says hey he cant resell! e-gold cannot lock my account they can inform me and place a limit on my account but that wont happen as when I buy a music cd I paid for the rights to use it and play it same goes to rsgp; your time has been put onto it which gives it value, e-gold cannot just rip you of your "time"
    3. e-gold sucks
    4. once you get money on e-gold transfer it to your bank account, your bank wont freeze your account; even if it is over pixels. Jagex can go cry.
    5. Good luck getting it back.

The court filing claims that the companies' owners -- Dr. Douglas L. Jackson of Satellite Beach, Fla., Reid A. Jackson of Melbourne, Fla., and Barry K. Downey of Woodbine, Md. -- knowingly allowed criminals to use the service and profited from others' crimes. The indictment further claims that, because the service requires no identity verification outside of an e-mail address, E-Gold became the preferred method of payment for online scammers, identity thieves, and child pornographers.

    -------

So basically what is happening, is they're protected by some company (Which, I don't know) and have a policy in their terms and conditions which states 'Issuer reserves the right to refuse service to particular individuals or
entities, at its sole discretion, with or without cause.'

I would just like to point out the obvious really -

As the above says, E-Gold are profiting from 'wrongly accused criminal VICTIMS'.

They're picking out people with a fair amount of gold in their E-Gold, and bringing you down.

I would strongly advise none of you continue to use E-Gold.

    EDIT: R2P I just found some disturbing news;

And I Quote: 'Back in the late nineties e-gold was a safe place to conduct business, but in the last 2-3 years many folks were scammed by the so called hyips. I spend $5000 and my money went...God only knows where...the transaction was not even listed in the transaction history of my e-gold back office, and my account was wiped out. All e-gold could say is that they blocked the account that siphoned and redirected my money, but I would have to get a court order before they can reveal who stole my money. They could not help me further; I would have to get a court order. On the other hand I have NEVER lost a dime via Western Union or PayPal. My money goes from point A to point B with no problem. So I strongly disagree with anyone who compares e-gold to Western Union or Paypal.

A great many innocent people will get hurt if e-gold is shut down completely, and I feel for them, but for folks like me (WE ARE IN THE THOUSANDS) I say good riddance to e-gold'

I believe if you want that money back, you're going to have to get a lawyer/eterny. Though you may want to come up with a story non-runescape related, if it is to go that far.

Ouch man, sorry to hear that! I hope you get it back. You do realise under the Information protection act you do have a realise you have the RIGHT to see all information held on you... this may only be a european law but i doubt it, read up on the law, when they see you kknow what your talking about they wont mess with you and you could get it back... just a suggestion :)

Aww, that stinks. I think you should just stick with only payment via mail, because no one can steal it out of your hands, or in this case, account. :(

Threaten them with a lawsuit unless they return your money O.O

It's practically theft and they didn't even inform you about it.

Thank you for this, well i guess eGold is turning out to be a so-called "Scamming" company.. $800+ is kinda alot, there is a possibility to sue them, if you have kept the conversation files, etc.

thats to bad :( i once lost 300$ to a site called site, said my username / password wasnt in match, even tho i copied it right from the confirmation E_mail they send me. When i called them they said i needed to wait for about 3-4 buisness days, havebeen waiting for about 2 weeks now. Sending a complaint E-mail right away. .Good luck with getting it recovered.
