I'm hearing Russia approved of the strike.

 

I almost never support Trump, but I have no problem with this they used chemical weapons.

 

But, Russia elected Trump via rigged polls. /s

Regime change in the middle east has never proved effective. When ISIS approves of your actions, you shouldn't feel too good about what you've done.

 

We can't really prove that Assad used chemical weapons. What would be his reason for it? He was already doing just fine with explosives, so was there a reason he would anger the UN in using a different tactic when his original tactic was already working?

In my opinion, this might have been the rebels/ISIS or even Turkey which wants to prevent Syria from becoming secular under Assad. These two entities have a motive for actually angering the UN.

IS is against nearly everyone in Syria and as they are attempting (and failing) to establish a caliphate, they would hail any action that weakens their direct enemies (in this case, the state of Syria which they are attempting to overtake).

The use of chemicals can certainly be proved whether through autopsies, primary information and video, analysis of said information, the tracking of aircraft that would have dropped them, and a variety of other metrics. The U.S. did not pledge any long term shift in policy; rather, they took out roughly 20% of aircraft at the airbase and destroyed a couple thousand gallons of fuel. The airbase was left operable and if anything, this bombing seemed to be along the lines of: "Violations of international norms to this degree is not acceptable." Really, it may have strengthened U.S. credibility in any possible form of detterence.

As for reasoning, I imagine the main answer you'll find is that the U.S. backtracked and practically stated they were fine with Assad. This could have potentially emboldened Assad and even served as a test gauging US response.

Angering the UN does absolutely nothing. Only Security Council resolutions are binding and Russia will not allow anything negatively affecting Syria to pass (reflecting back to testing US possible unilateral response as the US would not be able to act within the UN).

This is pure conspiracy with no factual basis.

Turkey is a rather secular state in the Middle East and you may be underestimating the abilities needed to create not only weapons but their delivery systems. IS is in a very weak state, has been steadily losing land and sources of income. If we were going to pin the attack on another group, the most likely would be a rebel false-flag operation in order to garner U.S. support; however, I trust U.S. intelligence enough to believe McMaster and Mattis would not escalate U.S. involvement based off of a possibility.

Again, angering the UN has absolutely no impact as the body cannot enforce anything and I am not sure what motive anyone would have for "angering the UN." The SC is worthless when parties are against another.

 

Middle east solution? Turn it into a glass parking lot. Praise allah
