A simple automated PM makes it easy to find and read. No newcomer is going to the support section and find this thread that Roary made. Also, I'm fairly certain this kind of add on is pretty simple.

 

I'm saying we link it in the PM, it explains pretty much everything including 2FA, imposter, RAS, rules, and more. I also linked the add on so everything should be easy to set up

 

Oh, I see what you're saying now. I still see a problem in that there's a lot to read in that thread and usually there's a negative correlation with number of people having read something and length of the material. I want to just focus on impostors, vouches, and middlemen. If we keep adding more and making it longer, there's a good chance people just skip over it.

 

Well I see this as a PM to new users about the site and how it works, not about scamming specifically. Also if it's just about how to prevent scams, it might give the sense of "There must be a lot of scams here." I agree they must be educated on scams tho, which is in the guide @Roary made, but also extra things that all new users should know. Just my 2 cents though, feel free to discuss.

IMO the guide is too long, and this suggestion aims to focus on scams. We can see what others think though.

I support this suggestion, there also a lot of things new users don't know and you have to explain them every time you contact someone new.

 

Also it would be cool to include common types of scams -- 3 way imposter scam has been getting popular recently

Should also be a small test to verify the user has in fact read the notice.

 

Unless I'm mistaken, all that it would have required is changing the default welcome message sent on all vB forums through the ACP. I can't see one in my inbox so maybe it was disabled before I joined, idk. The same should be true of XF though.

Whoever drafts up the message should probably mention the things that a PM should include, and that if it doesn't include everything they should ask for another. A lot of people fall for scams purely because one party sends a shitty PM.

Support, my first experience with Sythe was getting scammed when i came to buy a 10$ membership card back in '11. Would love to see this implemented.

 

I support this man. I completely agree that it would help out the newcomers with sales/scams etc. In the long run, it'll make them keep coming back and keeping this an active community with less (hopefully) scammers/unwanted members.

Sythe has been gaining a lot of new members recently, which I'm very happy about. However, a lot of these newcomers make posts without first reading the rules of the relevant sections. I believe that if new users receive a welcome message with links to the Sythe terms of service it would make them more inclined to follow the rules.
