Why play Dota 2 rather than League of Legends?

I have always wondered why people choose to play Dota 2 rather than League of Legends, feel free to discuss your reasons on why you play Dota 2 rather than League of Legends.

Here is some information I found comparing the two.

Is DOTA as a base game free to play like League? I've always considered trying it but IDK.

Also Dota looks like a game that looks like it requires a better computer to run than League (correct me if I'm wrong on this). I know you asked for reasons you play Dota over League but I went ahead and listed why I play League instead of Dota.

Back in 2013 I was running potatoes that could run League but not Dota.

Basically, I'm interested to hear reasons from a Dota player on why I should switch.

 

Its free to download and all heroes are free. The only money that is involved it buying cosmetic items iirc. IT also doesn't require that good of a computer, although I believe it does require more than League to run but that is hardly a problem for most people now days.

 

That's actually a really underrated perk, free heroes. One of the biggest reasons making new league accounts is such a chore is because your champions are all gone. I guess it kind of works in the sense that it punishes people who get permanently banned, but for people trying to get better at the game through high volume play + leveling up accounts, it's really annoying to not have your go to champions/characters automatically.

For example a lot of my friends in higher ELO like playing with me in Aram or on the Rift but have to do it on lower MMR accounts. That really handcuffs their champion selections. I like the fact that you can at least earn champions without paying rl money but they take forfreaking ever to grind for.

 

The most significant reasons for me are the mechanics. In dota you have turn rate gor each hero. In league you just instantly turn another direction. I just dislike lol for having too many "instant" mechanics compared to dota. Maybe because i mostly played dota, i feel like this.

 

In LoL, all champions are anime alike, and I don't like anime. In Dota 2, they are more realistic (as for me) and faster, that's why I prefer playing Dota 2 rather than LOL.

 

DotA was just one of the first mobas that rose to popularity, although nothing huge back in the day. It had tons of players but it was running on an old system for a very long time. It was the first moba I've ever played which I started a decade ago.So I guess the reason I played it, I don't anymore and haven't for a while, was because it was the first and only one I stuck to. I know how there's always comparisons and how lol is better because the numbers show it, but dota lost its edge when the beta for dota 2 took too long and dota 2 took too long to come online and missed its shot.

I played it because it was the game I was already used to and good at. I was a few wins away from making top 200 in my region a few years ago. I was too focused on trying to improve there instead of checking out league. I'd like to play league some time just for the sake of comparison if my desire to play that type of game rekindles in the future.

I'm in neither of the band wagon on which is the better game nor do I care if I don't play. League interests me because it was based/inspired from DotA, I could only imagine that it was made to the preferences of a player(s) with intentions of creating a better game.

 

LoL looks like something out of a comic book to me.

I've never played LoL so I can't really compare both of them, but my experience is that Dota2's learning curve is really steep, but it becomes so rewarding once you start understanding and mastering the different game mechanics. It's something that takes months/years and the competition is brutal. Aslong as you're not a scrub that gives up after 10 minutes, you're probably going to be ultra concentrated on every damn click throughout the whole game. I haven't played really these past few months though, I'm not too fond of the changes the game suffered with the map/interface update.

dota 2 been released in 2013 yes but dota has had a very big player base since 2000 when warcraft 3 was released for me i would say dota 2 is much much better than League of legends because LoL i think its somewhat childish and limits you with the ammount of characters you can play and dota2 is much more harder and need concentration although i have played LoL for a long time but i still went back to Dota2

 

I never enjoyed lol really but dota ive enjoyed from time to time when im bored

 

One more reason, why Dota 2 rather than LOL, it's earning some money. I combine business with pleasure. I like dota 2 better due to it having better mechanics(imo) and higher skill cap.

 

Because LoL is easy.

 

Sorta like asking why people like coke over pepsi or vice versa -- everyone has their own preference on certain things, and some of em weigh others higher than others. For example: I prefer to play a good game than a shit one ran by Tencent.

Dota 1 and 2 are more like uhm.. realistic feels to me unlike LoL, seems more of an anime kind of thing.. I don't know if you get me

 

All my friends who play Dota claim it is more competitive?

 

Well, I tried league but sassoon very limited in heroes that a could start off with. That pretty much killed it for me and went back to dota
