Remove discord permissions for non-verified users

Anyone can make a new discord account and come to the server and be annoying, including those who are banned and aren't allowed on there. Would be nice if they can't do anything outside of the #help channel.

If we're going to implement something like this, I think discord needs to make a shift from an unofficial discord where people can say/do whatever they want and is practically an extension of the spam forum to an official discord where individuals are held accountable for their actions.

 

Or it can be like the regular spam forum, where random people do not make accounts just to spam.

An easy fix is just to not let @everyone use the chat system and only give that permission out when people verify.

Official/unofficial literally has nothing to do with this suggestion. We're suggesting the removal of all perms from unverified users in discord, which is literally a few setting changes in discord and takes 0 management time.

You don't even use the discord lmao.

The current discord already has a bot that you verify through your sythe account so we know who is on it and that it is indeed that person. All this does is remove the permissions from those who are not sythe members/banned.

 

Can we possibly limit them to other channels like #help? I'm sure they were restricted before and I'm assuming Richard didn't like it? Or maybe we just didn't see any non verified talk, or elite bobby wasn't around. No it was definitely limited.

or make a channel where they are able to communicate through rather than the verified needed channel and not general channel? Like a complete open channel etc. If you'd like to verify and chat with everyone else come thru.

Aside the fact discord does become kinda boring sometimes without having non-verified users chatting, I assume there is no reason to actually verify? Non-verified could just promote and try trade in #general etc, sometimes becomes too much.

I just don't see the point in regulating who comes into the discord if it's not a Sythe discord. It's not official so why should anyone care who comes in?

 

If it's not official the title of this thread needs updating again, as it was changed recently from unofficial to official after a recent suggestion regarding banned users in the discord was approved iirc.

Apparently I missed this. I remember banned users being forbade from using it, but if Sythe discord is magically official, then I personally find the equivocacy of it to the spam forum absurd.

How are we going to try and entice new members to join the discord when there's no actual control of due to it being treated like a spam forum?

So, if it is indeed official (which I hardly find accurate given the shape of discord), then sure support; however, if we're going to maintain it as an official discord, I think moderation of discord should be a thing.

Yeah, the moderation of it is definitely something that needs addressing. In general though, removing permissions from unverified members outside of #help would be a good start & would prevent banned members from being able to repeatedly come back in.

 

Enacting site rules should be out of the question as long as the discord continues to remain unofficial. What's the deal with that anyways?

I don't support this. We need to encourage activity, not restrict it further. We can individually ban users on Discord if needed. No need to restrict access for a whole group

 

How is preventing users who are not allowed / banned on Sythe restricting Discord activity?

This suggestion is to prevent users who are banned from just making new accounts and coming into the chat and spamming, or people from making troll accounts and doing the same thing without any repercussions. What groups would we be restricting by doing this? If anything it would make the discord look a lot more official and professional in the off chance that someone new does happen to stumble upon it.

You banned PlanBUK from the Discord just the other day because he wasn't verified and you weren't sure who he was. You literally did what this suggestion is suggesting, and for some reason don't actually support the suggestion.

 

By disallowing non verified users to talk in discord, you are restricting activity of the non verified usergroup. Result is less activity in discord. Like I said, we can restrict access for individuals if necessary,

I did not ban PlanBuk for that reason. Where did you get that information.

 

I don't see how it's a bad thing? If they're not banned then it takes 60 seconds to verify and they'll know how because it's written on the thread where they'd find the invite link.

A previous accepted suggestion to keep perm banned users out of the discord isn't being enforced because they can pick a random name and sit in there to chat shit about Sythe like they always do. Only good input I've ever seen from a non-verified user is "How do I make an account?"

 

It's bad because it's an unnecessary restriction. I don't see the benefits. A huge disadvantage is that users won't be able to ask how to get verified anymore. We can make the help channel available for everyone but unverified users won't know about it.

You can have one channel for unverified people to figure out how to verify. Discord is not that tech-savvy to use. There are plenty of plugins for discord, ones which will notify the user they must be verified before they can talk (and therefore must go to the help channel to figure out how).

A pretty good pro is annoying banned people will stop making accounts and not waste staff time by banning them every time.

 

Maybe im not on at the time, unverified users, vaders etc, start to spam, But I've never seen them as a problem. Now that you mention all this fuzz about being oficial or not oficial, I really support to remove the perms of unverified people. we need traffic and activity in the fórums, right now on discord seems fine to me. This suggestion would help mods on not to waste time banning a member every time
