Interesting theory on god and his existance

Didnt put this in the evolution thread because... Well... It doesnt have anything to do with evolution.

Anyways, this thread is about something i thought about on gods existance.
The whole idea of religion is that it is all about faith. Indeed, in a passage in a bible(which i have since lost the bookmark to) there is something along the lines of "without faith, i(god) cannot exist"
Faith is when someone believes in something without proof.
Therefore: If we prove god exists, then god will cease to exist.

    Your thoughts?

Interesting theory on god and his existance

I think if we proved gods existence it would just shift to belief rather than faith, so it wouldn't make such a huge difference. Plus if you prove good it becomes fact rather than abstract notion, so again you get another shift in what your trying to deal with. Heck, maybe God just got how he works wrong or it was misquoted by whomever originally wrote that bit of the bible so all bets could be off.

First thing you'd need to do though is prove the existence of god...

btw are you sure that quote is in the bible, I thought it was in the HitchHickers Guide To The Galaxy "God says "I need not prove my existence for if there is absolute proof then there is no need for faith, and without faith I cannot exist". Man says "but the babel fish proves your existence, and therefore you don't" and God disappeared in a poof of logic"

If you prove God, in THAT sense, God will cease to exist, but God will exist in another sense because you have proven his existence.

no he won't exist...He would be known as having existed at one point in time but no longer does, thus scrapping the religion

So, if we all prove gods existance, the religious people can get all uppity becuase they were right, but then become depressed because their saviour is gone!

I have now got a project over the summer holidays :D

Because, as any good propaganda system, religions indoctrinate people into believing that this is fact. Do this, do that, have faith, don't question the existence of God - or you will burn in Hell for all eternity.

That's how religions have survived into our modern lifes: exploiting peoples fear.

No. Your statement creates reasonable doubt, therefore your theory didn't prove anything in the first place.

Interesting theory on god and his existance

I don't know for sure what would occur if there was solid proof of his existance, but I wouldn't assume that he would disappear...

My comprehension is that human will never be able to prove his existance, therefore you really cannot say that we will fall into depression; think about it, if archeologists found a enormouse, immense boat, could it be Noah's ark? What if it really was his ark? Does that mean that God is real? The bible has been translated so many times. For what reason would he want people on Earth to prove that he is real?

Interesting theory on god and his existance

everyone says they do or dont believe in him, i do at time but then again i dont, because they say god created everything, but if he made everything who made god? i believe that what i think should be what other ppl think about god cause ppl believe he made everything but dont even think about who made him? cause they said adam an eve where the first ppl on earth but if god made them who made him, therefore god must be some sort of alien or something like that, i have spoken what i have thought.........

Interesting theory on god and his existance

No, the only way to learn more about your faith IS TO QUESTION IT. That's the only way you'll ever look deeper into the meaning of your faith. Please tell me where a religion has ever gave anything even close to don't question the existence of God. How do you think people have gotten this far in religion and faith already? BY QUESTIONING IT, asking a good question, will in turn give a good answer.

To your second paragraph or sentence I should say, are you telling me God uses fear to make people believe in Him? Now that is really the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

    Now back on topic.

Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is. I find that passage, quite fitting for this discussion. I also find it interesting in its own way.

As to your passage, I have yet to come across anything remotely close to that, so if you wouldn't mind finding it again, I would appreciate it so I could read it.

I think you most likely got the words mixed up, or the meaning. Whether people believe in God or not, he was always there, is here, and will always be here. We will most likely never be able to physically prove God is real, although I could be wrong. Religion is based on beliefs, beliefs are faith, and faith is something you cannot alway see nor touch.

Rofl, so when God says something you like, it's great and it's in the Bible, but when he says something you dislike, it must have been written down wrong? Great argument to counter the many faults of the Bible.

Interesting theory on god and his existance

I would think that if God was proved to exist that would increase the amount of faith in him. I sure would have more faith in God if i knew he was real.

its sort of a double negative
if you proved he existed then he no longer would
the faith would go away but the belief would still be there
