Update: Unid market ground to dust.

As always, with a new update comes good plus bad points of view. It is mostly up to the user to determine whether these changes made are for the better or for the worse.

Just to note: I am not for or against the new update. And even though I am quite a good herblorist(?) and I train the skill as often as I can, this update has no effect on my thought of the skill whatsoever.

The most recent update included changing the items of herbs. The update included an update on the looks of the herbs AND the big change of completely scrapping the 'idea' of unids.

For those of you who do not yet know what unids are, here is a summarised detail: When collecting herbs, most of the herbs you collect from drops will be unidentified meaning that it's in-game name is just "Herb" could be one of the many many herbs there are in the game. When identifying unids, you are rewarded with a small amount of Herblore experience and the identified herb. This feature of the game has beren completely ruined with the addition/change of 'grimy' and 'clean' herbs. After the recent update, there are no longer any unidentified herbs. The equivalent to identifying a herb is to cleaning the herb ready for turning into a potion or whatever use you may need it for.

Some users might see this update as a very good update. These people are obviously not frequently part of the herblore market. Unids were a huge part fo the herblore market AND the herblore skill. This is for a various number of reasons, but the main reason is because people make huge amounts of money not identifying the herbs they get, and in turn, sell the herbs for a fixed price (these prices were normally 1000gp for a lower lvl herb ie below ranarr; and 2000gp for each higher lvl herbs ie above ranarr weed.) The idea of selling unknown unidentified herbs is that you and the buyer/seller are both taking the risk of making a profit off the herbs which you sell/buy. On the other hand, selling specific unidentified herbs (normally for a slightly higher price) gave the buyer extra experience for identifying the herb. This is a similar way to how the new system update will work except there will be no need for precaution when buying your herbs because you already know what they are.

The chance of buying unids for hopes of getting high level herbs used to be a VERY successful way for levelling the Herblore skill without a high price. This has all gone now that there is no risk taking.

Now time for the question: Was this update needed AND was it the wrong choice for an update?
Now I know that many people make lots of money through unidentified herbs but just as lots of people make money, lots of people lose money. The unidentified herbs were very commonly used in a scamming method where somebody would say that their unids were ranarrs and they were selling them for 500gp each and the buyer would identify the herbs finding them to be lousy guams. This just raises the point of this new update in grimy herbs to be in favour of preventation of scammers. Not a bad thing, but if people were just a bit more cautious, this update would not have to be held. Though for every scammer, there is a sucker just wating to be scammed. So you can ask yourself the question: Would you rather prevent scammers from getting their dirty 'grimey' money (pun intended) or would you prefer to have a more open and dangerous herblore market? This is totally your decision.

This update WILL lead to a downfall in the Herblore market. There will be many, many people who are totally against grimey herbs and who have practically been stripped of their unid selling 'branches'.

My views are that this update is not necessarily a bad thing. I am against the 'grimey' herbs concept and I know that now I will no longer have the ability to buy my herbs unidentified for easier levelling in Herblore. I will manage and you can too.

With these not-so-new introductions, I believe that in good time, everyone will manage to cope with it. All that has happened now is the prices for Herblore have risen. After all, money is everything on RuneScape...

Now those were my thoughts on the new update. What are yours? Please do post.

Update: Unid market ground to dust.

Well, I am not very familiar with the herblore market, but it sounds to me that it is a good update. It prevents scammers from scamming people. But the bad side is that no-one will ever buy Unids just to gain xp by Identifying them. I dont know anything more about this "market" so I will just shut my mouth and watch the rest of the respsonses that are comming.

I agree. I didn't see any problem with it before either apart from the obvious fact that lots of people were being scammed. But if you are buying unids, you should be aware of all the scams that are around unidentified herbs. It is a matter of scam awareness.

Update: Unid market ground to dust.

The unid market has been destroyed and lately all of herblore has become gay so it doesn't really matter anymore...
