Is Smithing worth it?

I am currently working on a level 29 black pure and the only good stats he has really is 82 smithing and 73 woodcutting all other stats are 50 or below. I'm just wondering is there any actual point to getting 85 smithing? I only worked on it due to everyone being so low/ranks in highscores.

 

Not really no. Higher stats are obviously nice to have because they are seen as accomplishments. But apart from that there isn't much you can do with smithing but make armours. Even then you wouldn't really be interested in making addy armours lol.

 

Lol okay thanks I suspected as much, I am currently profiting off it actually making addy bars in blast furnace I have gone from 1 mill to 4.2mill in just under 2 days and I don't do all that often. Problem is the xp sucks and rune (where you make most the money) I cannot afford to bulk buy. Thanks for your reply bud.

What would you recommend for making money? I don't really want to do combat beyond my level 29 and I thought 200k + an hour was good in all fairness but I only just come back from a 3 year break (I quit for WoW)

 

if you have 66 magic you can run air orbs, thats like 600k+ per hour

if you have done tai bwo wannai village quest u can buy karambwans at a shop for 160 ea and sell them at GE for 1k ea.

 

Damn 600k an hour? that's crazy and I never thought that was possible lol hmm I might make a combat account too then and work on this skiller on the side. Thanks for some tips man.

Isn't smithing steel bars great money? I know the profit's gone down a bit, but if you get a coal bag from motherlode mine (would take like 4-5 hours MAYBE), I'm sure you could still manage to make 800k-900k an hour with steel bars.

 

I mean, what do you mean by worth it? I personally think the cape alone would be sick AF and make the grind to 99 worth it, and I feel like that about only a few capes. I feel like 99 smith is one of those capes you only get if you're a total boss, like 99 herb/thieving/agility. Especially on a pure that would look so savage.

Moneymaking wise? No- it's not at all.

 

i disagree that profit wise it isn't worth it. Doing steel and rune bars at blast furnace is pretty good money. The cape is really good looking and if you want faster exp at a loss then you can always do gold ore with gauntlets. Its definitely worth it depending on your goals. But usefulness it won't help you to much in every day scape but still cool looking to have a high level and great money depending on the method.

 

it really only serves as an accomplishment, because there isn't really anything to do aside from making armour, which by itself is hardly worth the profit.

 

The real profit comes from making bars at blast furnace which can net 600k+ an hour due to blast furnace requiring half the coal

This is simply inaccurate. It can be good money, while not as good as zulrah still good nonetheless

 

It can be good money of course, so can any skill I imagine? The question was: Is Smithing worth it? - So lets figure.

The time it takes you to get to a decent level to make some actual profit would easily be in the 70s (for argument sake, mithril items start) or higher (if not doing cannonballs).

Now imagine yourself, 1 account starting smithing, 1 account at any other money maker, Zulrah for this example.

The time it takes you to get 70 smithing, you would have already earned X amount of millions.

Compared to now-days money making methods, smithing isn't the most reliable source of income. So in this day and age, my opinion was that it isn't, not even in the top 20 methods of money making.

 

The time it takes to get to 70 smithing is significantly less than it takes to get a zulrah ready account. IE Regicide, 80+ range/Mage and if you want to factor in getting RFD gloves that takes even more time. Smithing with blast furnace is one of the best money makers for how little it costs time and gold wise to get to the point of making money.
Name another skill that can make 1m an hour with lower time required to get there.
Hunter is the only one I can think of.
Firemaking? No. Woodcutting? No. Runecrafting? at 91 yes but a huge time investment. Thieving? Fast to level but not good profit. Fishing? No. Fletching? Same as thieving.

Edit: Im not saying that smithing is one of the best moneymakers but I do believe that it is underestimated. I myself personally do zulrah for money but I think it would be rash to discount smithing as a nonviable moneymaker if you were in a skilling mood

 

Perks are that you get a skill cape that looks okay. I would just go for high enough to complete diaries and quest cape.
