world war 3 - global tension

Relationship between the US and Russia hasn't been this bad since the early 1990's.
Recent events in Ukraine and Syria have heightened tensions between Moscow and Nato, the US and other regional armed groups.

Could this lead to a situation similar to the Cuba crisis, back in 1962, or even worse? Today's modern weapons can probably cause a war that's way more deadly than the previous world wars.

    Leave your thoughts below,
& what would you do if your country participates in the next global war?

Well, at this current time in history Trump and Putin are in a good position to restore our relationship with Russia (from a business perspective at least). Trump has chosen the CEO of Exxon to be his secretary of state, which has held business in Russia for the last two decades and supplied them with oil. Putin has publicly congratulated and endorsed Trump more than once and is open to restoring relations with the U.S. I think the way it will play out is that Putin and Trump will start a relationship that is based mostly on business, but if Putin gets out of line I doubt Trump would hesitate to put him in his place along with anyone else.

Russia and NATO tensions have been there since the inception and U.S. back-peddling in the expansion of NATO even though the Soviet Union has fallen has further increased these tensions (i.e. U.S./NATO arguing it would not further expand). I'm not sure if I would argue Syria is increased NATO tension; rather, U.S. tension whom runs NATO for all intent and purpose. NATO is there to protect all the smaller states and if anything, interior tension has increased due to the Russian annexation of Crimea with very little U.S. response.

None of this relates to the Cuban Missile Crisis unless you are referring to the tension during said period and if you are, they are no where near as close. The U.S. had nuclear weaponry off the shore of the U.S. A proxy-war is nothing compared to that and the U.S. has been exchanged in them previously (i.e. Afghanistan).

Modern weaponry has shifted away from mass-destruction and to that of pinpoint attacks. There is the nuclear deterrent and the world has yet to see two nuclear powers have a major conflict with one-another and even if they did come into contact, I would not expect nuclear weaponry to be used on any wide-spread basis (pin-point if anything).

I think people significantly underestimate the global factors that come into play in the modern world. A world war would wreck the global economy and there is not currently any country that stands a chance against the U.S. in actual military conflict. The U.S. is not just a hegemonic power, it is a global power, and it is the sole super power. It is a unipolar system and the U.S. is currently running the show. The U.S. defense budget is larger than the next 8 highest spenders combined (majority of which are very close with the U.S.) and while China is stepping up, it is doing so in a hegemonic way. China wants control of it's own region - much like the U.S. initially wanted with the Monroe Doctrine.

Tensions are tight atm, and America is in a weak position with Trump as president, but I don't think WW3 is on the horizon.

We're at a point where war with first world countries is mutually assured destruction. War would not benefit anyone right now.

If it were to happen, I would hide in the mountains, away from civilization. If they bomb the mountains, then they're just fucking savages.

How is the U.S. in a weak position with Trump as president?

Only 8 nation-states possess nuclear weapons.. There are plenty of developed countries that do not possess nuclear weapons and going to war does not assure the use of such devices.

How does bombing of mountains correlate to savages? From a morale stand point, wouldn't bombing cities filled with people be "savage"?

I love that picture it made me laugh, I personally don't think there will be a world war 3 now with the modernized and dynamic culture we live in today, I liked reading the topic though, interesting.

Considering China, Russia and Iran have a mutual defense agreement and the US was THIS l l close to kicking in Iran's front door; I'd say you're right. We're right there on the threshold of WWIII. I would say the stakes are higher now than ever, Russia's eroding slowly from the inside out but China is an emerging powerhouse. I think China could supply russia with enough food and raw material to keep them through a large war, however the US and its allies have BEEN stacking the deck for another WW. After WWII we began investing heavily into 'defense'.

Case and point: Russia has ONE aircraft carrier. Lmfao. Bring that shit son

If a war happened right after I got my medical discharge I'd be swinging from a light fitting for sure. As long as you're not a 3rd world country you've got no reason to believe you'll be involved in war
