    e-Gold - BEWARE

As many of you know, I was on vacation this past week in North Carolina. When I got home, I logged into my Paypal, my online bank acct, Runescape, everything was fine. Then, I tried getting onto my e-Gold account (found at www.e-gold.com), and got an error that said my Passphrase was incorrect. I thought to myself that it was quite peculiar, so I called into the e-gold Customer Support.

When I called the lady informed me that my account had been "referred to another section". She said there was nothing she could do, and it was up to me to contact them with the messaging system on e-gold.com. So, I did what she instructed, and sent them this message:

Question: My egold account is currently unaccessible. I have been told that
it has been "referred to another department". I am really confused as to
why all these problems are taking place. I have done nothing illegal on
egold, I sell virtual items (Gold for MMORPG's), and I am quite disappointed
with how this has been handled. I have received no information as to why my
account has been closed. If I hadn't contacted eGold, I would have never
received any information. This is a terrible way to treat an active
customer such as myself. I demand an explanation for why my account is
unaccessible, and you can guarantee that I will be writing to the Better
    Business Bureau about this incident.

They said that it would take up to 2 business days for a reply. However, within about an hour they sent me this automated reply:

The block will not be removed. Your account was blocked under our Right of
Association clause in the account user agreement. Quoting from the e-gold
    Account User Agreement:

    http://www.e-gold.com/unsecure/terms.htm

    --- begin quote

    4.6. Right of Association

Issuer reserves the right to refuse service to particular individuals or
entities, at its sole discretion, with or without cause.

    --- end quote

    Thank You,
    Due Diligence Unit

So what does this mean for me? I guess it means e-gold.com has stolen my 800 USD+ balance. They didn't even contact me when they blocked my account, I had to contact them. It seems as if their system is becoming extremely corrupt. I haven't got many details on it, and of course I will be getting in touch with them again. But I advise you be EXTREMELY careful when dealing with egold. Don't let this happen to you.

Wow sorry to hear that R2P, definitely contact the BBB. $800+ is nothing to play with. It was very unprofessional for them not to email or call you about that. Good luck with it

Yeah, it would be a good idea for you find out exactly what happened.
If they really just closed your account for no reason in particular, you could make serious work of it. Agreement or not.

I think it would be a first if they simply "stole" your funds though. We'd probably have heard if it had happened before.

But in the case they did, it was probably someone who figured they'd take some nice "pocket" change from a few accounts before they retire or something. Thinking a nice automated e-mail would get rid of anything. In that scenario they'd probably return your account once you make some serious work of it.

Keep us up to date please, and good luck!

Wouldn't it be possible to sue them. I mean, they randomly took your money. Isn't it theft?

I heard about this from another source and am very sorry for the loss, as that's a big blow to anyone.

I might temporarily not accept e-gold as a payment method for my GP Business. Good job for the heads up and hope you get your account back.

This is almost exactly like what happened to me on Paypal. The sites are making enought of our transaction, why do they feel the need to rip off us like this? Is this even legal? Thats your money! You made it and you deserve it! (I just felt like the guy in the wendy's commerical, lol) All the best!

They can't freeze any account without cause. The most they can do is set a maximum limit, as provided by section 4.6.2:

"If Issuer refuses service to User without cause Issuer will do so by adjusting value limit, but Issuer will not Freeze the account."

There are only two reasons they can freeze an account.

    1) If a user tampers with e-gold's security (hacking, etc)
    2) If ordered to do so by another authority

Since e-gold's already under investigation, they really can't afford to be "corrupt". It was probably the government that's ordering the closure of accounts. In which case, e-gold probably won't be much help; you'll probably have to speak with someone else; ie, a lawyer.

But I'm sorry to hear about your loss, and good luck dealing with them.

what are you talking about, not as bad as paypal, he just lost 800 usd from e-gold and you say its not as bad as paypal lol.

Paypal rocks, I would never buy runescape gold with paypal but that is because I would never buy RS gold, its a wast of money. Many of you say no its not but for me yes. The gp is not even yours its jagex and jagex can take it away at any time.

Now to the point Paypal is alot better when using online stores such as ebay or bestbest ect. There is no way to get scammed with paypal when shopping online. Sure RS gold you can but that is because when you use paypal with ebay you have a middle man that makes sure that every thing go smooth.
