Ok Phil, I've recently got an old computer out of the cupboard, whenever I close a program like MSN, Firefox etc, the computer restarts itself.

Hey phil, I have another problem with a different computer. I had recently brought it to circut city to let them fix it and they kinda screwed it up worse...I reformatted it and it worked fine.

I shut it down after fixing it and windows wasn't there anymore for some apparent reason. I tried reinstalling windows but it didn't load/work.

Can you please help me? And good luck on your exam today.

well since you refomatted it you erased the OS and when you were trying to reinstall windows something went wrong (wich happens often). Use this guide to help you http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

It worked fine when I reformatted it....Like I went on the internet and everything. Then I shut it off and the os was gone. I tried reinstalling it and it wouldn't work.

When I turn it on it starts up like a comp without an os.

I put in the cd and try to load it (mnaually) and it won't load.

It like freezes and does other junk when you actually get something to work. Never actually downloads OS

Also, how did your exam go?

That's very weird... I thought this was only a Vista problem. Try putting in your XP CD, restarting and booting from disk, then run repair mode and type in FIXBOOT AND FIXMBR. Tell me if that fixes it.

I'd say your HDD is dead considering Windows does nothing when you try to boot from a CD. Get a second opinion, though.

Hello Phil, welcome to the Tech Support Section...
Let's see if you could answer this question...

    The Scenario:
    Thermaltake 850w PUS
    Intel Core 2 Quad
    Plextor PX-760a cd-drive
    e-geforce 8800GTS
    The newest Bios Card
Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard/Asus Extreme Striker Motherboard
    2 Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4D 1024MB 800MHz 4-4-4-12 XMS6404v2.1 RAM
    AND a 750gb Hard Drive...

Lets say I am building my computer... and when I turn it on, it did not bring me to bios, and when I look back at the Asus Striker Extreme motherboard, it saids CPU INIT... Also no beeps... All fans are running.... How would I diagnose this problem, to tell which part is faulty?

Nah, its not dead, got a file recovery thingy and It shows the files, but it can only make a .dim image (and .dim.001 and yeah)

Is there any way of extracting a .dim image

Its more of a file recovery mission now
