Where did bad words come from?

damn originally means hell, or go to hell but i guess people used it to much and parents tell their kids to not use it then it became a bad word

 

Let's go back to the middle ages?

Archers, plucked the string on their bow with their middle finger. BUT, if they were captured by the enemy, they would cut off their middle fingers, to prevent them from ever shooting a bow again.

What would you think came from this?

Sticking up your middle finger, (flipping the bird, etc.)

The archers would stick their middle fingers up, showing that they still had it, symbolizing their skills in archery.

Overtime, as I'm guessing, people got cocky with it, and soon it was perceived as a statement of arrogance.

It ALL depends on how you percieve things, and what your culture makes of them.

However I believe that it started out as a way of expressing yourself.
(like being arrogant or trying to be hurtful to someone)

They thought what could they do to be offensive, They used gestures or words to express their opinion. In the beginning, i believe it wouldnt be the word that was offensive but the context they used it in. And over time the word has been adapted to that context and has become an offensive word

 

They call from people every day..New ones are frequently being made whether or not they are told everywhere...I guess you could call it slang or whatever.

All words designed at the start of the language we speak. Usually mean something in slang..

Wow i didnt think this thread would get so many posts.. kinda seemed like a dum question wen u think about it ...lol.... Anyways... yea... im gettin alot of ideas about it, and they all helped me out. thx ppl.

My best guest would be that they were formed over time, during cycles of anger and the inability to come up with the right word, at a particular moment.

Heres an example: The s word, or crap can be used in place of various objects, or as a way to show an emotion. Instead of saying I feel horrible, someone who may not think of a particular word right away, or doesn't feel like doing say may say I feel like sh*t.
