The sun hasn't still exhausted the supply of hidrogen in its core. When this will happen (expected in 5 billion years), it will switch fusing hydrogen in a shell outside the core.

Also it won't suck up the entire Galaxy, an average sized star like the sun will probably go up to in between Jupiter and Mars, not the whole Galaxy.
There are a lot of Red Giants in our Galaxy and they haven't consumed our entire Galaxy.
Also 5-6 billion years.

 

I agree with the751, nuclear war will kill us all.

 

Global warming = bullshit.

We will most likely die of the sun imploding and such, the earth will burn and etc... lol

I watched a documentary on this a while ago

These are some prediction scientists make..

1: Nuclear Destruction... we basically kill ourselves...

2: Comet.. it's not a question of if.. it's a matter of when

3: Biologically.. not really destroying the world..

4: The Mayans predicted that the world would end on December 22, 2012 [i know you said to keep irreligious but i thought this was a nice little fact ]

here's my theory, we are only one tiny planet probably out of like 456789 other planets in the universe, eventully we will find other humans/aliens and they will pwn us

e problem with option 2 is that rusia cant do shit, they were a superpower along with us at the end of ww2 we became the 2 superpowers of the world, which had crisis, then with the cold war started, nothing happened, and then russias economy got really screwed and we came out on the top, just cuz russia has alotta land mass it doesnt mean they are tough the world will end after we use up our resources and we dont bother making alliances for the remaining fuels as we declare war for the fuels, we couldve been allies and made the ever wanted nuclear fission(the thing that the suns doing) or cold fusion which will never happen, also all of you people who want time travel... keep on dreaming time travel will never happen, possible? maybe but well be having to many wars and we wont be able to cooperate our minds with theirs( theirs being the rest of the world ) in order to create something as such

lmao @ gibblet, global warming is a problem, but i doubt it will kill us all b4 the sun expands. i also saw a documentary where in the distant future (phew), something happens and it slowly explodes every planet. but this, and the sun imploding is wayyy too far for me to care, so now, im just gonna enjoy my life and not think about that stuff.

And, all that mayan bs is all overplayed, i cant even imagine how many ppl predicted the world to end. (1,1/00, 6,6/06, 7,7/07, and others)

Sun is probablly going to go super nova on us :S

 

Assuming that we don't tear ourselves apart with war, our life Earth will probably end when the sun explodes, but mind you we might find a way to escape Earth before that happens
