Money Making Guide (made by me)

In the following, I will go through what I have found to be the best ways to make money, explain why their good, how they work and how to do it.
I might not be 100% correct, but after 2 years of experience in playing runescape, I do know a fair bit about on making money.
I was going to sell this guide but I decided to let you guys have it for free :D

The money making strategies are in order, starting from the best, to the less significant strategies.

    1 - Scamming:
    Why:
This has to be the best way to make money, because you might have noticed, the majority of people on runescape are extremely stupid, and gullible.
Most scams don’t require any physical or player skills but are legal, yet you can’t get banned for some of them if you are smart enough.

    Definition:
Scams are where you trick a player or rip them off and gain an unfair amount of money from them. E.g. tell a player that their fried will give them 1mil for their rune plate legs, then lead them into a place with high level monsters (knowing what you’re doing) then watch them die and take their items.

    Guide:
The key rule to scamming is: never admit your scamming them, even after you scammed them. If you do, they can use that as evidence and you will get banned.
Remember always be friendly when your scamming someone, make them think that you’re a good, nice, trustworthy person.
There are a lot of scam techniques, so I won’t put them in this thread, but I’ll put links to them here:
    http://www.rsunlocked.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10097

I will update this and add more guides when I find some, or make more myself.
Obviously I do not take credit for the links that aren’t posted by myself.

    2 - Merchanting:
    Why:
Merchanting is a good way to make money; because it’s completely legal, and it doesn’t require player skills or physical skills.
The biggest and only downside of merchanting is that it requires money, and a fair bit of it if you want to make a good profit from it. Clearly what you merchant depends on the amount of money you have, the better the item, the better the profit (usually anyway).

    Definition:
If you didn’t already know what merchanting is, ill explain it.
Merchanting is where you buy and item e.g. abyssal whip for 1.5mil (I don’t know the price atm because I’m F2P now :p) and then you sell it for a price higher than what you bought it for e.g. 1.6mil, therefore you make 100k profit.

    Guide:
The best way to merchant is in highly populated worlds that are mostly used for buying and selling. Here are the worlds to merchant in, what town to merchant in, where the items are bought and sold, and the suggested items to merchant:
    P2P merchanting: world 2 – Falador Park.
Suggested P2P merchanting Items: Dragon Legs, all barrows except Karil’s, discontinued items, Dragon 2 Hander, Dragon scimitar, Obyssal set/ Obyssal cape + shield alone, Amulet of glory, Dragon Dagger P++, Rune Sets.

F2P merchanting: world 1,3,4,5 - West Varrock bank
    [IMG]
Suggested F2P merchanting Items: Rune sets, Rune skirt, Treasure-Trail Rune Amour, Discontinued Items

    3 - Staking:
    Why:
Staking can be the quickest way to make money and also the quickest way to loose money. People stake party hat sets, 100+mils and other rares. The bad thing about staking is; it requires a small amount of skill (with, and sometimes without, you will loose money) also, staking requires money.

    Definition:
Staking is what players call dueling another player for their items or money. You can duel people without staking which is called a ‘fun’ match, which is more common. You can duel other players at the dueling arena in Al-Kharid, here is a map of where it is and where to find people who are willing to duel or stake:

    Guide:
The key to staking/ dueling is to always get first hit.
There are many different types of staking, but I only have experience in melee.
A famous type of staking is called ‘Boxing’ (my personal favorite) which is either with no amour or weapons, or only a weapon; this requires a high defense level.
People who melee stake with amour and are level 80+ almost always use one of the barrows amour; Verac’s.
Verac’s is the best amour to use staking because it has high defense bonuses and can ignore the opponent’s defense and also has prayer bonuses (but stakers usually don’t use prayer). People who stake with amour will usually wear rune, then change into Verac’s once they are inside a duel, and then take it off when the round is over. Wearing rune when they have verac’s makes people think that they beat the person because they have bad amour thus more duels and money. Doing this requires a fast click, with changing your amour (you only have 3 seconds).

Even though I haven’t staked with range, I know that Karil’s cross bow or rune knifes are the best weapons to use, they are the fastest weapons in runescape, and you only need one hand to use them.
If you want a good advantage, make a staking pure. To make a melee stake pure, that boxes (best way to stake I find) you will need good HP, good defense, 60+ attack (for DDS) and no prayer.
Everything else in staking is well self explanatory. Staking is very easy to pick up on, I suggest you do get some practice before you start staking for money though.

    4 - PKing:
    Why:
Pking is good because you get a lot of stupid people in the wilderness with sometimes valuable or alright items. With a bit of experience, money and a good account/ pure, you will be able to make a decent amount of money.
By the way, those 3 requirements are the downside, their not too easy to get, but once you have them, your good to go.

    Definition:
PK = People Kill. PKing is where a player will go into the wilderness and attack and try to kill another player and loot their inventory once their dead. This is one of the most popular things in runescape and can be a lot of fun. KOed = knocked out, this is a term PKers use often to describe how they killed another player. If you are the first to attack a player you will get a skull above your head which means when you die you will loose everything. When you attack first a get a skull, players call this ‘skulling’

    Guide:
PKers do not like it if you eat when you have a lot of health left, they call this ‘safeing’ and the person who does it is a ‘safer’ some will not fight unless you only eat when you’re at low HP. They do this so they get to low hp and then KO them. When it comes to PKing lots of people panic and spam click their food thinking it will make them eat quicker, but as a matter of fact this does the opposite, the command floods runescape and cannot do anything, and longer to process the information, lots of people get KOed from spam clicking their food.
With level 25 prayer you can use what’s called protect item which players again call ‘safeing’ this allows you to keep 1 extra item when you die, if your skulled you will only keep one item.
If you want to stop people from ‘item safeing’ you will need 52 prayer and use smite, this will lower their prayer points every time you hurt them, and they have a good change of running out of prayer, thus no item protect, therefore you get a whip :O
A good way to make sure people don’t run away from your battle (always happens), take a few runes so you can snare, bind or entangle them which keep them in the same spot for 5 seconds, 10 seconds or 15 seconds depending on which type of spell you used.

    5 – Mini Games:
    Why:
Minigames can be a satisfying and fun way to make money, you just need to be patient with them, and after a while they will most certainly pay off.
At first you may start making a loss, but with some determination, I can assure you that you will make a few mil in 1 week. There are only about 2 mini games I have not yet played, but I’m pretty certain the mini games for making money are:
Barrows, Kingdom Managing and Clue Scrolls.

    Definition:
Mini games are extra little games you can play in runescape, most of them are to gain experience in a skill or gain money or even both, some are just for fun. But obviously I’m explaining the mini games that can be used to make money.

    Guide:
I could write guides to these 3 mini games but it would take up waaaaay too much room, so ill just post the guides made by the “pros”:
    http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=barrows_guide.htm
    http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=manage_thy_kingdom.htm
    http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=treasure_trails.htm

    6 - Skills:
    Why:
There are a lot of skills that you can make money out of, some you make money from training, some you loose money from training, and some you can make money from doing, but not from good training. This money making type is based on runecrafting, because I found that that is the best way to make money out of the skills.

    Definition:
Well, everyone who has done Tutorial Island knows what skills are. So ill define runecrafting.
You most likely know what it is and how to do it, but you may not know about what is called ‘power RCing’ (members only) which you can do only after you have done the Abyss Miniquest. The abyss is a quick way to runecraft, firstly you don’t need a talisman to do it, and secondly, it’s much faster than normal because you only have to run to the alter and then teleport back with a glory.

    Downsides of the Abyss:
The downside with the Abyss is that you have to run through level 1-4 wilderness, and you will find many PKers waiting for ‘power miners’ to run past. Another downside of abyss is that once you enter it you get skulled, and you there are many monsters waiting inside the abyss that will quickly kill you if you hang around too long because its mutli-combat in there. So it’s suggested that you don’t bring any items except your runes. The good thing about these monsters is that they drop essence pouches that are made out of abyssal demon organs that hold more than 1 essence inside of it. To get to any of the runecrafting alters; you have to pass a wall. Getting through this wall isn’t that easy, you have to use a skill to get past it, either: agility, thieving, woodcutting, mining and some other skills. There is only 1 gap where you can get past without doing using a skull, the problem is; this is hard to find because you come into the abyss in a random location, therefore you have no sense of direction. Once you have found this place where you can just run through, you will most likely have no HP left unless you brought some food.
I know this sounds very tough, but if you’re a high enough combat and woodcutting etc level, its quite easy. You will get used to it.

    Guide:
If you power RC (highly suggested) then you will need about 5-10 amulet’s of glory (4) (fully charged) this is because they have a teleport to Edgeville, which has a bank and is very close to the Abyss, so when your ‘Power RCing’, always wield a charged glory.
Of course there are other skills that you can make money out off, but I’m not going to put a guide for every skill. Instead, ill put up 2 links here:
    http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=skill_guides.htm
    http://runehq.com/RHQSkills.php
And naturally, I don’t take credit for those guides.

I haven’t ‘Power RCed’ a lot and might have missed 1 or 2 things. So you might want to look at the guides done by more experienced people.

7 – Flax picking/ Bowstring making and Cow hide looting:
    Why:
Flax picking and Cow hide looting are an alright way to make money, mainly because you don’t need skills or money to do it.

    Definition:
Flax picking is for members only, so if you’re only F2P, you will have to stick with cow hides. They both sell for 100gp each – Flax sold in Seers Village, Cow Hides sold in Al-Kharid.

    Guide:
Flax only takes around 0.8-1 seconds per plant where as looting cow hides will take from 1- 60 seconds. This is because you either have to kill the cow first or run to a different location where a cow has died.
Cow hides weigh more than flax, and cow fields are further from the bank than flax fields, so you’re much better off going for Flax if you’re a member. Otherwise, you’re stuck with cow hides :p

    Flax Picking:
You will find some flax around runescape in some odd places by itself (only one plant or several not next to each other) in such places as: Gnome strong hold and West Fremennick Province. The best place to get flax is in Seers village, in the flax field just south of Seers village bank or a little west of Catherby
    [IMG]
Just follow the red line from the bank to the field as indicated on the map and left click on the flax repeatedly.
There will be approximately 1-20 flax on each plant, I suggest pick flax that is 1 square north of another plant, because when the plant dies, you can keep clicking and you will walk south and pick that plant automatically if you have your screen positioned low enough.

    Bow String:
After picking flax, you can turn it into bow string for an extra 50gp (bow string sells 150gp each, again at Seers village)
Just follow the green line from the field, to the house, to the bank as indicated on the map above.
Once you’re inside the house, go up the ladder that is at your immediate south.
Once your upstairs, go to the south-west side of the room and click on the spinning wheel, then right click it and then click make all bowstring.

    Cow Hide Looting:
There are a few places where you can find cow paddocks with an area with lots of cows fenced in (best way to get the hides)
The lines indicated on the map are the cow fields and the quickest route to the closest bank.
I find that the best cow field is the one just south of east falador bank; it’s the closest cow patch to a bank, and unlike the Lumbridge / Al-Kharid cow patch, it has MUCH fewer people.
Just follow the line from a bank to your selected cow patch, kill a cow or loot ones on the ground and once your done go back to the bank, following the line provided on the map above.

    8 – Monster Drops:

    Why:
Monsters in runescape can drop expensive items, but those items are extremely rare, and chances are; you will not ever find a good item in the whole time you play runescape (good items such as abyssal whip, dragon amour and weapons, (all member items :p)

    Definition:
When you kill a monster it might drop an item, the higher level the monster, the higher the change of a rare drop. E.g. most monsters always drop bones.

    Guide:
Wearing a ‘Ring of Wealth’ (member item) increases your chance of a good monster drop by approximately 20%
This can be made with crafting by getting Dragon-Stone (can be collected by opening the Crystal Chest, Located in Taverly) and cutting and turning into dragon-stone ring with level 55+ crafting, then enchanted with level 68+ mage. The ring sells for 40-50k from players, 40k being merchant buying price, 50k being merchant selling price. There isn’t really anything else to know about getting monster drops.

If anyone wants more information, don’t hesitate to add me on msn and ask me any further questions – [email protected].
I hope this helps you people out!
Suggestions and Hints are much appreciated to make this guide better.
And yes this guide was made 100% from scratch, by me, and me only.
I posted this on rsu, but im posting it here to help you guys out aswel
